Hi, Umbrella Online's server recently had a major problem, and my UBB got lost with it. So I have to re-build and re-hack all over again due to me being on a new pc, and was never able to make a backup I was wondering whether it would be worth waiting for 6.3.1 because I can't use Beyond Compare (too confusing for me) and I'm not wanting to upgrade for some time to come. Thanks, Oblivion Knight

Will there even be a 6.3.1 this time? You don't know that.

Last I heard there will be a 6.3.1. It's scheduled to include Mass Move. When will it be ready? When it's done!

We're looking at public beta of 6.3.1 very soon now - after the 6.3.0.1 release, of course.

Any idea when 6.3.0.1 might be out? And why does UBBDev get a copy of it several days before it's released?

because ubbdev helps test the product before it is released to the public, its to nock out bugs and test it with a few hacks, but you will have to wait on a admin to get a full answer, i think LK handels the upgrading and testing here but i could be wrong.

Yeah, but wouldn't it suck having to re-write every hack for each version?

Very few hacks have required a total rewrite since the 6.05 -> 6.1 transition. Almost all hacks that work on 6.1 will work with every subsequent version, and vice versa. It's just a matter of finding where the code moved. We're working our way down the version list a handful of features at a time. We've been TRYING to get sped up to 45 days between the release of the previous version and the first beta release of the next. We haven't managed to get there yet, but we're working on it. Very hard. And if you don't like the schedule we're trying to keep then perhaps you'd like it if we never released a new version?

I like the thrill of making each new version look totally different. I do a lot more template hacking than cgi hacking these days. That makes the upgrades a lot easier.

Beyond compare isn't that hard to use. You'll get the hang of it soon.

That's encouraging. I've been thinking the same thing as Oblivion Knight, but I guess it'll be the same with me and MultiHack, downloaded it thinking I wouldn't use it, now I'm addicted. So I guess it really is worth the $30...

Haha. Well I figured it out myself. Simple as comparing new versions file and your hacked file are transferring new code and then saving.

As soon as I'm done hacking Umbrella Online for a third time, they'll go and release 6.3.0.1 public won't they..? The joy of keeping up to date..

I agree, I really should think Infopop should release versions slower and take their time.

I disagree, if you wish _you_ can skip a version, but the users who want to be updated and have a bugfixed board can't wait for so long.

Lets take vB for an example. The latest version (2.2.5) has been in for months. I don't wish infopop to take THAT long but at least leave a month inbetween each version unless it's a big update needed. Of course nobody listens to the customers but it's the way some people feel.

I don't think you understand something: they don't make you upgrade.
If you want to upgrade monthly, and they release 3 releases a month, upgrade only to the third one.
Ofcourse that they don't listen to you, because also many request them to release even faster, and they know that you can skip versions, but the ones that request many releases can't "create" releases.

Version 6.3.0 - May 09, 2002 Version 6.2.1.3 - April 22, 2002 Version 6.2.1.2 - April 09, 2002 Version 6.2.1.1 - March 13, 2002 Version 6.2.1 - February 16, 2002 Version 6.2.0 - January 28, 2002 Version 6.1.0.4 - January 10, 2002 Version 6.1.0.3 - November 16, 2001 Version 6.1.0.2 - October 26, 2001 Version 6.1.0.1 - October 24, 2001 Version 6.1 - October 19, 2001
I count two months between major versions. 6.2 and 6.3 will have a .1 release adding a minor feature, each released a month after the original.
If we keep this trend up, 6.4 will be out in August. I'm personally hoping for late July, but that's just me.
I don't see how a major version ever three months is releasing too quickly.
I also don't see how relasing critical bugfixes is ever, EVER an issue.
Your arguments are completely, totally invalid.

2.2.3 03-06-2002 (6 weeks)
2.2.4 03-10-2002 (4 days)
2.2.5 04-01-2002 (2 weeks)

2.2.6 hasent been releaed to the public yet, i sould know ive been waiting on it to update the php on one of my sites , however like i said in a reply that got deleated, the updates are good for bug fixes and infopop is keeping the bulk of its users in mind, IE, non hacked boards

A statement of absolute precision - and with that in mind - we've all got the best of whatever it is that we want, whenever we want it!
