I know this has nothing to do with UBB's, but it's the only place I could think to put it and someone from here might be able to help me out.

I have recently purchased a new pc (p4 1.6Ghz, win xp, 512kb cable modem).
For some reason, I can't access a lot of the pages on here that I can view on my old pc ( http://www.blueyonder.co.uk ) for one which is my homepage..

Also, on some pages when I press back, I get a scipt error and the place looks like a mess. I took a screen shot of an occasion of many on none other than UBBDEV:

I've tried setting my Internet options to default and scanning my pc for viruses using Norton Anti-virus 2002 to no success.. Can anyone help me out there?

Many thanks,
Oblivion Knight

You're in luck.
This is to do with the Compressed pages loosing the first 2048 bytes in IE if you have something that catches clicks in IE:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q313712 for IE5
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q312496 for IE6

Thanks for that, but it looks like i am having to wait for the next IE6 update which will contain the fix.. I tried entering my product-id number for the free support and it said it had expired..

Just install all IE updates (not only the ones from windowsupdate) and update your IE to the newest one... I used to have this problem a long time ago.

You can actually use the registry fixes outlined on that page.
It will disable click catching in any programs that do that (e.g. GetRight)

If you're on a fast connection you can do Tools - Internet Options - Advanced
and Uncheck "Use HTTP 1.1", Click apply, and OK.
Problem being with that is, some pages require HTTP 1.1, e.g. windowsupdate, so you might just want to disable it before you goto sites that are problematic, and re-enable it afterwards.

I found a batch file of all the latest security fixes for Interent Explorer on the Microsoft homepage. So I installed them and what do you know, I can access my homepage again and that problem seems to have gone..

Cheers LK, you saved me re-booting and finding the same problem happen again with a loss of all my data.. laugh
