Today I tried to go to my Test board and I suddenly realise I get a 404 error. Then I get notified they stopped supporting UBB's on their server without any notification and delete it. Those inconsiderate people! Lukily I got another payed server to put it back on and I think I have all my hacked files backed up.

Why are server people so mean? And DON'T notify you? Why?

The professional ones aren't. Unfortunately people have gotten use to lower and lower prices for hosting as competition forces companies to offer more attractive packages. You can get really good UBB hosting for 20 dollars a month if you fine the right place. Netwerkin is on a smokin' server and I communicate with the hosting company owner on a regular basis. It is a great relationship.

A lot of these companies that off hosting for $7.77 a month are offering crap. They claim all sorts of things but when your board is hitting their CPU's and affecting the other 999 sites on that server they kick you off....

Then there are other kinds of pitty hosting companies... such as the one that's offering great things for "acceptable" money ($30 - $40 US a month) and everything's looking well.

Then in 3 months they will delete your things without any hint, and even go as far as fine you for abuse of services!

Luckily I had a couple of logs from the server, so I got away without paying.

The best customer support I've had for paid web hosting was at CW Hostings.
Unfortunately we had to move because of bandwidth (60 - 70 GB/month), but they were always there and ready to change/fix things.

Then again, I've noticed that quite a few of those cheap hosts ($5 - $7/month or so) are nothing but "fake", run by one person of his/her personal DSL. Those are baaad. eek

Sorry, just had to add my two cents! wink

It was a paid server, but one of those attractive deals ones. I will not fall for that again. But I'm lucky I have a backup server for when they go wrong.

They deleted your data? Wow.

Every one of the hosting companies I ever worked for set permissions to 0 until we contacted you, then restored permissions and gave you time to download before even thinking of deleting your data.

Picture perfect penmanship here.

This has got to be impossible... 220 MB storage, 9 GB bandwidth/mo., unlimited POP3 e-mail accounts, Perl, PHP, SSI, and 2 MySQL databases -- for $7.00 a year. And it's supposedly "buy one, get one free" right now, so it'd be $3.50 per account, per year. http://www.cyberwings.com/hosting/individualhosting.html

I would have hoped they did that but they are inconsiderate bastards and all they wanted is the money and didn't give me any customer friendliness.

simlar stuff happened and was the reason synergy-core's ubb went down.

we moved to a new pay server due to bandwidth problems with a old one, it was based in england, the other site admin got it for watever reason, he had anthor site on it so he thought it would be good and got anthor acount, 5 days after the move are cgi permissons where set to 0, we got no email frm them so i called them,i spent alot of money on them calls to oO, but they were not responding to email, come to find out they dident allow ubb, but no where when buying the acount did it say we couldent run it. i explaned to the guy i was on the phone with that all i wanted was my files and that i could close the ubb while i got them, after begin on hold for 15 minutes i got hung up on...

not wanting to call them again i emailed them, the same responce i gave above, a day later i got a email back, it said that money would be refunded but i would get no files back cause i was a quote "fat americain slob", i would have sued them if i wasent refunded, because that really pissed me off. i had to use the refund to cover the cost of the phone calls to boot.

You can still sue them for harrassment by teasing you. I swear I can't believe these server people have no respect for all the hard work we put into S:C. I miss it. frown
