Why don't people take into account JCTemplates? I know LK is working on it, but no one else seems to know they exist. Shame too because it makes UBB boards look a lot better, but no hacks work with them. *throws bra at modification people*

Hackers that think it makes UBBs look better make JCTemplates versions, but the others (majority) doesn't have the will/time to post something for templates they don't like.
About me, I made hit hack for JCTemps because I was bored, but don't expect to see many of my hacks for JCTemps till I'll like them

Thanx for your quick reply. I take it you would help though if people wanted assistance in that area. My brother (Cyberbug8472) is trying to get a style hack working I think. Although I am thinking of leaving my current board as it is.

I didn't forget to include instructions for modifying the JCTemplates for my "Advanced IP Logging" and "Random Quotes" mods. But yeah, I hear you. I prefer the JCTemplates myself, and I think more UBB "hackers" should take them into account. *puts bra back on Laura*

Um, it's not all that difficult searching for the "similar code" in the JCTemplates. When I install hacks, I prefer using Multihack. What I do is make duplicate copies of the public template files within the Multihack program. Sometimes I don't have to do anything to get the hack installed. IOW, the code is identical to the regular templates. If I get an error message, I open the JCTemplate file in a text editor, and search for similar code. I copy that code back into my Multihack file, and wa-la, 9 times out of 10, things work very sweetly. [FYI--in the Multihack program, I use the variable slot to install the hacks to my JCTemplate files since my variable .cgi files are in the .cgi bin.]

Nice one Sue - that should work very well Regarding JCT... most users will need to make a little more effort to modify their sites should they choose to use those. As it is, it will cause double-work for the developers to support them as well as the other alternate template sets coming down the pike... it's kinda like adding support for newer/older versions of the base code - nice if you have time, but not always possible = especially if the developer doesn't use those templates/version.

I started using the JC templates as an exercise in using the sub template folder. I ended up making so many changes that they don't look the same anymore but they are still in that folder. I got impatient.

Are we allowed to edit JCTemplates to our liking? I never tried it just incase JC didn't allow it.

It's your UBB, you paid for it, they can't disallow you. He can only make you leave the copyright wording intact, or not to post his template files in UBBDev/anywhere else. Just like you can hack on any UBBDev hack for your site... Even more, because it's under the Infopoppian policy, which allows hacking

I might try the JC templates and mod them a little bit. But still I prefer my own.

Look at mine, they are nothing like the JC Templates I started with. You know I can't leave them alone.
