Not quite, I was a UBB licence owner since 99 to 2001, when I switched to VBB. I decided to come back to ubbdev and take a look around. I noticed quite a bit of talk about pirated boards.
I'm glad that Infopop takes out pirated boards, But Im curious how exactally Infopop can force a warez board to go away?
I've also wonderd this about VBB, but Jellsoft wont answer me @_@;

Basically, they can contact you. If you don't agree, they'll contact your host. If the host is a respected one, OR if it's in the US (so it can be sued), it will remove your site. If not, they'll contact the host's ISP. If nobody will agree, and the rules of the states where the server is in don't apply with this stuff, they'll probably give the host's details to anti-piracy groups, which should help getting people away from the hosts - and then the host will be forced to remove it.

Also, on vB, it's easier to find out since whenever you log into the CP the board URL and number is sent to Jelsoft... I think... But I don't know

frist off its vB, seeing how LK explaned what ip dose ill tell you how jelsoft gose about it.
basicly everytime you download a copy of their software from their members area your member name and site info are inserted into the file, there is many places in fuctions.php that the code can be found, once you are reported for warez admin1.vbulletin.com url will show in your logs as they hit your site from there, if the site and acounts dont match they will contact you, and your host, and it will be removed, also the acount the vB came from to start with, is nuked and all other warez boards that came from that acount are searched out.

Yea, I know. The code goes into your index.php for the admin CP. It sends your serial by a clear.gif and by a javascript it gets (passing id=yourid). I dont have any problem with it
But how does Infopop PROVE that your UBB is pirated? VBB has that method, but what about infopop?

I don't believe this is an appropriate discussion since it could provide some insight to persons who wish to maneuver around the procedures in place to prevent piracy. If anyone has further questions about it, I think it would be best if you contacted Infopop directly. In doing that you would get the official procedure from Infopop and not our best guesses.
