No wonder I'm getting tired of MultiHack.
Today, it deleted the whole "Desktop" directory on my computer, for the second time.

The first time (~2 weeks ago), I was exporting the text instructions for some UBB mod, completely unaware of that awful bug, and BLAM!
500 megabytes of projects I was working on vanished. eek

Same thing happened few hours ago.

/me quickly uninstalls MultiHack 2.0...

Ouch, I guess that's why the desktop is mainly used for shortcuts wink

There is no valid logic in that statement at all.

It does state in several places that all files in the output folder get deleted when you install another mhk mod.

Please don't point it to your c:/ drive

Shortcuts?
That's what I use the menus and other programs for. wink

Allen: I had it set to spit it's crap to an directory off my root (x:somedir), and inside that directory, I had bunch of other things (mainly notes I make about UBB when rushing through the code), and those files and sub directories never got deleted.
I always made sure the box in MH "Create new directory" was checked, and same when I exported to my Desktop.
Tried this multiple times now, and it doesn't delete anything from the "main" export directory, but only when I specify some other directory in the Export dialog.

Sure, I could go ahead and just stick with that single directory off my root, but somehow, I don't trust this thing anymore.
Beside the fact I've never liked it at all. tipsy
Go figure...

I agree, but "automatic" doesn't have much to do with that bug in MultiHack.
Besides, I don't see the point in deleting everything residing in the export directory before exporting the thing.

Nevertheless, MultiHack is probably a nice program for some people, but not for me. wink

Oh, and I just cut two fingers on a piece of paper with UBB notes.
Proof of how dangerous software can be. laugh

Yeah, multihack screwed up my UBB files and killed my "my documents" file, in which I had 18 scans I was suppose to give to my cousin in which I had to do over again.

user error, you can set all those before starting. you can choose whether or not it deletes any files.... you point to the folders you want the output to go to and those that you might want deleted... you can't blame the program for eating your homework... tipsy

I feel compelled to say that I love Multihack.

It seems to be receiving a lot of abuse lately in these forums, and I'm not sure why.

I haven't had it delete one file that I didn't want it to delete (knock on wood).

I'm not going to dis MultiHack, I choose not to use it but I think it is a valid proggy. ANY piece of software needs to be used properly. My grandfather used to always say...

"If at first you don't succeed, read the instructions".

I just noticed this thread and wanted to say I'm sorry for your desktop being deleted.

But I would also like to point out that in the documentation and on the paths settings you are warned that the output folder is deleted often and that you should NEVER use the desktop or any other folder you don't want removed.

I even built in provisions for at least helping prevent you from using your desktop, I'm actually suprised that you were able to select your desktop folder.

Ohh, also I completely understand those that don't wish to use it. I obviously code myself and some things I just want to do myself. Which is why I added the export to text file feature in MultiHack. That way you can get the MultiHack file, spit out the text file and do it yourself.

Again, sorry to hear about your problems, but I can only do so much and can't force anyone to read documentation.

i never had any problems when i used it. But i do most of my hacking by hand becuase you get more of a feel of the code and ways to modify it to have it do other things and stuff.

Actually, I did read the docs and manuals, and I didn't forget the parts about directories/files being deleted, nor did I forget the warning about choosing the desktop for the output...

But, since it never deleted anything in the directory I created for it off the hdd's root, I took the chance and used the Desktop (was in kind of a hurry, and a bit lazy maybe).

I don't know, but it sure looks weird to me that it doesn't delete anything (for me, at least) unless I choose the root directory (yeah, tried later with another hdd) or the Desktop for output.

Then again, MultiHack is a good option for many out there, and I have nothing against it.

Don't worry about my desktop, few days ago I figured I had some decent backups at work, so I've gotten most of my things back. smile

Brad,

Because I haven't updated MultiHack in 6 months or so. smile I haven't even looked at the vB community as they have been even less supportive than the UBB community. If they have something that works better for them, more power to 'em.

As it stands, MultiHack probably won't be updated again. If I get a wild hair... but I wouldn't expect it. I'm glad that there are people that find it useful and still use it, I simply don't think there are many using it as a whole. If there are I haven't heard from 'em. My desire to continue a project is directly related to teh amount of feedback I get. If there is little to none, I have to assume it isn't something a lot of people will use.

I've got a lot of other projects I am working on as well. One of them is UBB related, but as to whether people will use it, we shall see.

I am working on a new website as and soon as that is done I'll be releasing it.
