Quick personal question. I haven't seen some classic movies... such as the Godfather or the Rainman. So I guess I'm "deprived" because I haven't seen them. Could you name five movies that you think I would be considered "deprived" for not seeing? Here are some ideas to toss around: Rocky Horror, Lion King, The Matrix, The Godfather, Gone With the Wind, Friday, American Pie, and Billy Madison... but feel free to name whatever.

Friday? Billy Madison? Um, okay... :rolleyes:  Limiting a list of "must-see" movies to only five is impossible. Here are what I think are some of the best films made in the past 30 years (and these BARELY scratch the surface): * Pulp Fiction * Saving Private Ryan * Goodfellas * Schindler's List * Airplane (the funniest movie of all time, IMHO, and the king of all spoof flicks) * The Godfather and The Godfather Pt. II (one of the few sequels to surpass the original) * Raging Bull * Raiders Of The Lost Ark * The Star Wars trilogy (another original-surpassing sequel in this - The Empre Strikes Back) * The Exorcist * Fargo * M*A*S*H * Back to the Future * Apocolypse Now Of the "older" films, you must see: * Citizen Kane * Casablanca * Gone With the Wind * Psycho (Hitchcock was the master  ) * Lawrence of Arabia I think I'll stop now before I go on any further.

Office Space rocks! It's one of those movies where both the VHS box and the previews make it look pretty much lame, but it's actually a clever, hilarious gem. One of the most underrated comedies of all time.  Drew: "I'm thinking about taking that new chick from Logistics. If things go right, I might be showing her my O-face. You know: Oh! Oh!" I also love the scene where the guys get their revenge on the copy machine.

I adjusted Scott's list to those I am familiar with, tho I think you can miss most of those and not be "deprived". Deprivation sets in if you never get to see:
* Saving Private Ryan
* Schindler's List
* Casablanca
* Singing In the Rain
Those 4 help you understand the WWII generation and coming out of it - multi-Oscar winners among them all except Singing in the Rain - which I think has probably one of the most memorable scenes of any movie.
* M.A.S.H
- never really liked the movie that much, tho it seemed to affect a lot of people profoundly. Set during the Korean War era - my uncle flew fighter jets over there.
Others I have enjoyed as much, but didn't feel deprived if I had missed them

Well, rent it A.S.A.P. I think it's the best movie of 1996. Ever have one of those nights where you're in the mood to see something quirky and slightly offbeat? This movie is perfect for that. The same goes for The Big Lewbowski (also directed and written by Fargo's Joel and Ethan Coen), which is even wackier and more bizarre (in a good way, that is ).

The list seems to be missing many of the fine early Bill Murray movies, which should be at the top of any list of to see movies: 1) Stripes, 2) Caddyshack, 3) Meatballs.
As far as Hitchcock goes, don't miss out on "The Man who Knew Too Much", or "Rear Window" which are favs.
