Well I can point them to dozens of sits that refrence the "likeness of UBB code" and do not use trademarks or copyright notices after "UBB" I have already pointed out 2 sites to them that are blantent mis-use of "UBBCode".

You'd think Infopop would be flattered at a free product like this. Infopop could go after everyone, possibly win 80% of the cases, and gain nothing from it. I dont think they would do that. They focus on the products and support, not the people who use the UBB trademark for nonprofit reasons...

I am sorry but even this topic is a joke.
Are we arguing over the fact that they used "ubb" instead of "bb" or because of the actualy code.
Infopop havn't copyrighted the code them self, or else every message board untill date would have legal problems.
And as for using the name ubb, they arn't selling it, so it can't be a problem, and as it seems this is in php3 format, at the time vb who uses the name bb code, was still quite small and ubb quite big, you can't really cause any problems as their are many other addon scripts (including newspro like this can be used on) that used the name ubb code.
Just another lame topic in my view, but thats my 2 pennys...

Andrew, I don't think you even understand why the topic was posted, 1QuickSI wanted to show us a new PROGRAM for our use, I don't think he even cares about including "UBB" in its name.
I wouldn't say this topic is "lame".

The program is useful. The topic is useful. What exactly is wrong?

Andrew everyone has different interests. If a topic doesn't peek your interest you should just move on to the next one.
FYI: Just because a product is offered for free doesn't mean it has the right to violate other parties' copyright or infringe on intellectual property. Infopop has copyrighted their code, trademarked the UBBCode name and does actively (and rightfully) enforce it. That said, its not up to you or I (or anyone else outside Infopop) to determine (or speculate) if this program does or doesn't infringe.

If infopop cared about it then it would be. AFAIK, that subject is dead.
