The second Harry Potter movie opens tomorrow and the second Lord of the Rings movie opens next month.

What were your impressions of the first films, and what are your expectations of the second.

As for myself. I saw both first movies. Potter both in the theatre and on DVD. Rings I did not see in the theate, but did on DVD.

I thought both were very well done and true to their literary roots. In fact, both are among the best screen adaptions that I can recall.

I'm looking forward to the Two Towers a bit more. I didn't care for the second Potter book as much as the first, and I felt that Fellowship started a bit slow, but ended with a whallop (ok, so it didn't really end). Towers should be awesome!

I couldn't stand the Harry Potter movie and I'm a huge fan of the books. This probably sounds quite harsh, but I thought the actors playing Hermione, Ron and Harry were quite bad oh well, I'll go and see the second one of a sense of duty, hopefully it'll be better

as for the Lord of the Rings, that was brilliant! though I think even after 3 hours of watching it all, you'd have to have read the book to understand parts of it.

Well... sorry , but H. Potter was a movie for children I watched it after LOTR and didnt like it... Also I didnt read the books...

I watched LOTR 2 times in the theatre + two times from vcd = 4

Can you capture the Balrog scenes (Moria) from dvd?

I'm not a fan of the books although I have read one, but I'll probably see the new Harry Potter. Seems good enough.

As for LOTR 2, it's a must.

I thought Chamber of Secrets was pretty good. Lots of action throughout. A little on the 'scary' side for my nephews, but they still liked it.

Burak, the DVD of Fellowship was a rental from Blockbuster, so I don't have it anymore. Even if I did, I wouldn't know how to capture any video or stills anyway.

you should read the books, that's the great thing about Harry Potter- it's for all ages. it's really not as childish as you imagine, it gets quite dark in fact.
anyway, go read!

I mean capture "images" ... of course I dont/cant want you to capture such huge file... Anyway, I found it from another person, but the quality is not as good as I wanted

I'll see what I can do. I was meaning to buy the movie anyway

Besides, it gives me another reason to play around.

Two Towers is awesome! I like the Ents most in the second movie... Its a bad thing to wait for a year to see the third

I can't WAIT to see it!! (hopefully I'll find time this weekend) I wondered if they'd do a good job with the ents and I'm glad to hear that they did.

I saw Potter a few weeks ago, very good movie. And can't wait for Rings 2 now.

Two Towers is far better than the first one, but there is a scene when Gandalf comes from the hill with Eomer, it looks so unnatural especially the lights... Anyway you must see it

I saw LOTR on an "ultra screen". A most excellent adventure.

(Burak, they did a good job with the Ents but I thought they minimalized their role quite a bit compared to the book.)

Yes... It looks like Peter Jackson re-write the trilogy from the beginning Also we dont see the huorns in the 2nd movie...

But he did a great job anyway

I bought the expanded version of the dvd for Fellowship, and have watched a good portion of the bonus material/interviews.

Jackson stated that he wanted to take the main themes of the story line and incorporate as much literal dialogue as possible.

However, a literal translation of the book itself would have required a movie much longer than the already 3 hours for each of the two parts already released.

I'm sure that there are purists that were offended by Jackson taking liberties with changes in the screen version. But then again, including scenes such as Bombadill would do little more than extend the movie length. I haven't seen Towers yet (hopefully soon), so no idea how it compares with the book (all three of which have I recently re-read)

The bonus material is very interesting to watch, partcularily all of the WETA design/special effects, and Alan Lee and John Howe being involved as conceptual artists.

bah! jackson does not follow the original story anywahere in the movie He just follows the main parts; bilbo has a birthday party|gandalf forces frodo to leave| hobbits go to bree | etc...

He also added some stories/parts that does not exist, actually; he broke the original story IMO...

The movies are good, but we must not forgot one thing, if Tolkien' s stories were the same as jackson's movies, no one will buy the books (the scenario is just a crap, but a crap based on a strong background and supported by computer effects) I mean, thats the original story that forces (most of the) people to watch movies...

Generally speaking, few movies or television programs are original ideas anymore. Most are based on some basic formula, which has been used time and time again.

Hollywood today is selling image and stars and car chases and explosions. Most stories are thin at best when it comes to plot, character development and dialogue. Instead we get sound bites and clunky cliches which tire quickly.

Adaptation of any book to screen is a difficult task. Even with the changes in the story, the first 90 minutes of Fellowship was pretty slow going.

Adaptation is difficult but writing from scratch like jackson did is a little difficult than that

Anyway, turkish critics say that peter jackson followed the story in the book and bacause of this (also second book's story is weak they say) second movie is boring and not better than the first movie. Well, I never listen them and their silly, crappy ideas, but I totally disagree that he followed the story more than the first movie

I hope that no one will make the movie of Silmarillion! :rolleyes:
