Yeah, we were discussing this on IRC... One person seemed particularly scared about it

Personally I always have (and will) use IE, cause even though almost everyone hates it and thinks it sucks, at least you know it's not gonna come and stab you in the back

... so he's parinoid because it's loading the PGP DLLs? Has it occured to him that Opera is also an email client.. email being one of the key uses of PGP?

Actually almost everyone loves it (or at least accepts IE) as their standard browser. I'd say a good 97% of all internet users.

The top 5 browsers that are used on my site. So yep I have to agree. Also XP has now edged out the other OS's for the #1 position.

I was never were down. Although I had a small outage for an hour or 2 a few days ago due to my ISP.

I install IE only for system updates. It really sucks and crashes a lot and I' m not using it now. Opera is better and faster...

If opera is spyware it wouldn't surprise me. You can't make money giving a browser away for free, even if its ad supported. But on the other hand there is a lot of money to be made in selling demographics and metrics.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Microsoft doesn't need to generate significant revenue (if any) off of their browser simply because their other products do just fine. Internet Explorer is an accessory to the other applications...The browser intergrates well with other media types. No spyware or adware needed here.

You are missing the "strategy" here... Microsoft made IE freeware to block others. Maybe it looks like they dont earn any money from it, but the reality is different They kicked other softwares out from the browser category...
