I've started getting spam with stuff like : модель поощрения and Ответственность за на... and Подготовка критериев ... in the title and who knows what for content. Is there a simple way to block at least foreign language spam? I've tried adding some of the letters to my mail rules, but the mail program doesn't recognize it and instead thinks I'm adding a '?' to be blocked.

Get a Baysean filter. I use Thunderbird at home, and SpamBayes for Outlook in the office. Both have a 99%+ accuracy...

I've used Span Inspector with Outlook. It does an OK job, but I know that you can specifically configure it to filter foreign language e-mails.
I still don't understand why my co. doesn't put a filter on the server.

I use the non-freeware ChoiceMail One http://www.choicemail.com/ it works quite well, it's a standalone application that'll even work with freemail services like HotMail and yahoo.

I'm using the email prog that comes with Moz. The junk filter works fairly well, still training it though. Also using the filters IP offers in the hosting panel.

Symantec bought brightmail for $370million, hopefully they'll help my systemworks out with a little spam protection:

That's a lotta mulah... Rather funny too if you stop and think of it... One day a guy decided to buy a domain name for a small venture and it eventually turned out large, then he made $370million...

I switched from outclass/popfile to spambayes. Way faster and doesn't kill my computer when I open Outlook.
I've never used brightmail before but in looking at it I see Enterprise Edition, and ISP Edition. Don't see a lot in the way of personal use there.

arghh... thunderbird stinks. Definitely not ready for prime-time It imported my OE email into folders it doesn't use, it imported email settings (but not passwords) into other folders - basically I have 2 inboxes for each of the 5 accounts. It then downloaded all (~1,500) of my email from the online accts. I began to mark some as spam when all of the sudden it marked them all except for 3 as spam. I went to the junk email folder to mark them as 'not junk', after about 20 seconds it moved them all to the deleted folder. After about 30 minutes of trying to manually undelete the email (there was spam mixed in), I just uninstalled t-bird. Maybe of version 1.1 ever gets released it might be usable

I agree on Tbird. I tried it again earlier this week. Jujnk. I spent hours importing all my mail into the wrong folders, importing broken accoutn settings, trying but failing to move my mail into the right folders. I uninstalled as well. Eudora 6.1 freebie is way, way better. Yes, it has one tiny lil add that I don't even see anymore. Big deal. It's a far far better program and free. The paid for version has all the fancy spam controls.

She was assisting Lycos pulls antispam screen saver from site
- Lycos Europe NV appeared to have pulled a controversial antispam screen-saver program from its site today, after coming under fire from both security experts and the spammers themselves. - http://www.makelovenotspam.com Apparently it was using DDoS attacks on the spammer Microsoft Sues Spammers over Porn E-Mails - Microsoft Corp. has filed class action lawsuits against vendors of sexually explicit commercial e-mail.

Bringing Spammers to Their Knees In a novel if potentially controversial effort to fight spam, a firm called Blue Security this week begins distributing the beta of a free program that, once installed on your PC, makes it part of a community that works to cripple Web sites run by spammers. "Most spam fighting tools that filter or block spam are never going to stop spammers from sending more spam," says Eran Reshef, founder and chief executive officer of Blue Security. He believes that fighting back by "inducing loss" against spammers is the only way to eventually stop spam. - Sounds an awful lot like the Lycos "MakeLoveNotSpam" screensaver

More of a "Lets DDoS them to HELL" approach... Which kind of sucks as most spammers send their crap through servers they've comprimised, so these attacks end up bankrupting companies due to bandwidth overage charges...

I understand the requests are sent to the site the spam is trying to get you to visit, not the servers sending the email. There may be other innocent sites on the server, but it's mostly directed at the spamming/phishing sites themselves.

Yeh, but most of these sites are in violation of their webhosts ToS by spamming; all it'd take in some cases is a simple email to their host and they're canned...
