Thought I'd ask here too -

Here is what I am looking for -
Price Range:$20-$100 a month
Platform:prefer unix/linux
would like - cgi + php
telnet
(available database) I can adapt to any
static ip
Real Server (not just http streaming  )
800+ megs
Pretty High Transfer allowance as their will be audio/video streams and wish to allow for broadband options of each....

Their record label for the band is paying for the hosting and just asked me to send them some suggestions. @ webhostingtalk.com I was given a pretty good suggestion of asking a company to combine 2 packages....

Any suggestions, also has anyone tried - http://www.allaboutchoice.com ?

After lots of looking, I have narrowed the list down to these -

All of these must be pretty good because most of the references @ webhostingtalk.com were positive.

I will probably try to combine 2 packages wherever I go.

Just wanted to see if any of you want to share experiences good/bad you have had with any of these or even if you want to suggest another host please do!!!!

Thanks,
jeremiah laugh

take a peak at my post about the one without monthly fees. The standard package is pretty good, and you can upgrade for set fees. No reason to throw money out every month wink

Hey, don't use Atom|Host, whatever you do! They change around their server configs without telling you, disable running scripts from any directory, and turn off email whenever they feel like! Absolutely terrible service, and I'd hate to see you throw your money away on them.

Sure, no problem! The admin of their board (and owner of the service) was a jerk to me on their forums when I asked why the server was down for 3 days in a row. mad

Anything I can do to stop them from getting business is good enough for me! smile

My old host, *shudder* Pagecreators, actually had a policy that you were not allowed to post any negative reviews of them after cancelling... They (he) said he'd sue for something like $50K per incident for any negative comments that were traced to you. I sincerely doubt it would hold up in court, but scare tactics work on too many people, unfortunately. frown

Definitely would not hold up in court, unless you specifically signed an agreement that stated you wouldn't do that..

I checked freakscene's list and site5 looks the best.

That policy was definitely not in the agreement when I signed it, and for the better part of a year thereafter. It was one of those things that got added in the last few months without the clients knowledge, after his hosting server (yes, singular) started sucking. (And probably after Wired Magazine figured out he was nineteen and the servers were residing in his parents' basement.) Thankfully, he's probably either in jail or on trial for credit card fraud by now, and the host is no longer available.

Well I now have a hell of a headache. I currently use PrimeM(B}aster(d) and the site was down some 2 weeks ago. It took them a week and a half to restore my mx records back to the everyone.net settings. That meant no email @ those accounts for me or the 1500+ others that use that service.

Today the server went down again. The server is back up but my site - http://www.freakscene.net now looks like the primemaster.com page.

Oh, It get's better

I can access it via ftp but to my suprise, all the data they restored is a couple months old.... This means over 400 new bbs member accounts and countless posts are gone.
Hell, the ubb sitting in my cgi-bin is 5.46 now.....

mad mad mad mad mad mad

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhh!

I use http://www.venturesonline.com - (Venture 4 Plan) and I love it, I have had no problems with them and they let you know even when they are going to be down for 10min to do a software upgrade(which they do around 1 if they do) and they are about to move to a new datacenter with better connections and what not

And the winner is...........

Hosting4Less !

They set me up with a non-advertised package that has 1gb space and 50gb transfer which should be fine for me. The deciding factor was the fact that they host Slurpee's Van Halen Forums which are huge.
Most of the other hosts could not offer what I was looking for without going to a Dedicated account.

More good news!!! My old host recovered all the data from the server smile
Now I can get that beta version of my new super ubb image control hack coded before knuffel and drkknght hunt me down tipsy

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
