I need a free host that'll let me use CGI so I can have a test board. Banner ads aren't a problem but I really want to avoid pop-ups. Any ideas?

If you're on Windows 2000, you can install ActivePerl and Windows' own Internet Information Services (IIS). IIS can be installed from the Add/Remove Programs > Windows Components cpanel applet.

I'm not sure if other versions of Windows have IIS. You could also try installing Apache , but I tried that and never could make it run my UBB. frown Someone who's more advanced in Win32 Apache may be able to help you more.

I run IIS/ActivePerl on my machine, and it makes for a great test board.

I'm on Windows 98. I was going to upgrade to ME (got the upgrade as a b-day present in Feb) but I'm not sure I should. Anctually I don't really want to since I'm not sure all my programs would run on it. Is active perl only available on 2000 or do you think I could run it on 98?

You can run activeperl on any windows 9x/2k/ME version, but only 2k supports flocking which is used in UBB6, so you'd have to remove those commands from it....

Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of using it in the first place? I mean wouldn't I want it to run the same as it would normally? At least that's what I think. Im not sure.

You might invest in a cheap *nix webhost, maybe for $10 a month, to test out on......

Or http://www.hobbiton.org/
not the fastest free host in the world but it works....

I already have one that I'm paying for. Since all I need is a place to house a test board I don't really see the need to pay for it. It's not like I'm actually going to use it for anything truly productive.
