UBB.Developers Forums Community Development Programming Web Hosting Question regarding Apache server and its working

Hello there are in each page of the ubb boards, folder icons (closed.gif, closedb.gif). Now when a user makes a request from the Apache web server, does the web server return the closed.gif file 20 times (say if there are 20 lines of such icons per page) for each page that is requested by a user? Or, does the Apache server send it only once and then realizes that it has already sent the folder icon and does not need to resend it?

I am asking this since I am trying to figure out how to reduce bandwidth usage by cutting down on repetitive graphics images based on information I have.

Re-compile Apache with the least amount of necessary components but also add in Mod_Gzip Saves me on average 40% of my bandwidth.

A for the request, if the user refreshes the UBB cache should be presented. If they hold down the shift key and hit refresh the server is instructed to serve up a fresh page.

Hello is it just possible to download the precompiled module for linux, add the module loading stuff into httpd.conf, and re-start apache? Would that work?

Also what effect does mod_lib have on cpu usage? thax!

Yes you can load Mod-GZip as an external application to Apache and make the calls from the httpd.conf file.
