within a few months, i hope to start up my own site hosting company (lotsa great stuff for a low, low price! nudge nudge! wink )

anyway, im still doing all the research now on everything.

so, a question:

what is required on my end (the server / host company) in order to offer my users the ability to have their own UBBs?

do i have to install perl or something? use a specific server software?

Of course you'll need Perl installed! smile If it were me, I'd go with Apache on Unix/Linux, and give them Plesk control panels.

It's not anything you have to install, but don't charge set up fees. I hate those darn things.

15-20 gb transfer
500+ mb storage

for about (or under) 10 bucks / month

Ooh, you've grabbed my attention. Would you have any idea how much the transfer of a domain name and the yearly cost of a domain name would be?

wuhoo! clients! smile

at this point, all of the final details have yet to be worked out, so i cant really give you anything but vague answers

above and beyond that, networking isnt my specialty, so i might not even be able to give you correct vague answers! wink -- not to worry, tho, the individuals im partnering with have nearly 10 years of networking mastery.

tho, i think its safe to assume that, in addition to the above 'vague' specs, we will be able to provide most anything on a relative level that our competitors do (including php, frontpage extentions, ftp access, lotsa emails, etc).

look for us to debut (hopefully) in a few short months (ill keep y'posted!).

Do keep us posted. Oh, and I just got some subdomains set up. To have that would be wonderful, too.
