ok i will start a free NO AD web hosting company.... i am about 50% in the process:
it has: 1.46 gig 512 meg ram bla bla bla
it will offer: 1 mysql database php, perl, asp 500 Megs 1 Gig traffic / month
the problem comes to when we talk about domain names: i am a student trying to offer other people better learning environment without the fees....
the domain will be hxxp://websitename/nickname/ i will not be able to host sub domains / domains - so you would need to point them to that type of website.
Furthermore i have one of those free domain name things from dyndns. So the server has been up for about a week and now i am working out some signup scripts and so on....
My question is: Do you guys think there might be some general interest -- in the way it is???
I think small sites might use it instead of using Netfirms, but you won't find any good sites because: a. you don't offer domain/subdomain DNS. b. you will probably start charging soon, and they'll have many links to the URL in your server. c. 1gb/month d. dyndns -> your connection (DSL, cable?) -> very slow.
quote: i can handle some users that are just starting a website
That's what I meant. One of the problems is that they'll probably leave you when they start getting busy (any simple UBB needs atleast 2gb bandwidth ) and then the link to their site on your domain won't work anymore...
yea but if i spend all this time into setting everything up and stuff and then once it is all operational i get no people to come i will think like i wasted my time to do nothing of any importance you know what i mean?
so that is why i am posting this here to see the interest to see if it is worth it to go forward with the intended plan because i still need to do alot of coding till its all operational..
and so far my "happyness" for providing free web hosting has been dwindled
