My first mod laugh

Here we go:

Name: Chat Mod

Description: Lets you chat with jIRC. It has full CP support, it's 100% wordletized, it automatically gets the nick of the user/Guestxxxxx (5 random digits) if it's a guest, replaces smilies with real smilies (with SmilieMod support), notifies Who's Online, shows how many people are currently chatting (by Who's Online) and even invites people to the chatroom.

Demo: http://www.lkubb.dns2go.com

Link: ZIP File (last updated: 07.23.2001) OR MultiHack File (last updated: 07.23.2001)

Requirements: Who\'s Online 3.9Qa , jPilot License (unless you want to see an "unregistered" line after every line)

Special thanks to: Ryan Olson for Invitation Script, qasic, Borg and Philipp for their scripts, Troy J. for MultiHack and especially to my mom and dad wink

/me is so excited

Works perfectly except for one thing.
When there are users in the chat that are using the java chat and are seen by Who's Online, it wont count them.

It still says "There are currently 0 people in the chatroom. Click here to join it."
Sometimes it will say there is 1 person, but never more than that.

Is this something I may have caused? Can anyone help me with this?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 05/29/2001 7:33 AM
the3jams, Open Who's Online in a new window and refresh the main page at the same time,
it should be the same.

Don't forget it will never include you, because if you refresh the main page you're now "Viewing: Main Page", not Chatting.

If it still won't work, rehack ubb_lib.cgi.

If anyone cares about singular/plural, redownload the zip and rehack ubb_forum_summary.cgi and public_forum_summary.pl.

i found out the answer for myself but i have to share it to help you all as much as you have helped me ....

some servers dont recognise cab file so you have to change the:

jirc_mss.cab file to Jirc_mss.bin

now you have to edit one file

*****
Open ubb_chat.cgi
*****

*****
Find
*****

*****
Replace with

it worked a treat for me

i hope this helps someone smile

First off, this mod is excellent. I installed it as soon as I spotted it. wink

If I may make a suggestion - maybe make some more of the Jchat configurabe parameters editable from the control panel. For example, to get it to fit with my color scheme, I had to change the BG on the user name list. So, I went in to ubb_chat.cgi and added:

To set it to blue. It works fine, as did all the extra params I added manually, but being able to do so from the control panel would be nice.

Again, excellent work. If you want to check out my implementation of the hack, take a peek at my board here .
Posted By: Mickie D Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/01/2001 4:20 AM
what version of jpilot is this using
Posted By: Olson Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/01/2001 4:58 AM
One thing that would be nice to see is a subroutine that converts html colors to rgb colors. now this really isn't hard and then you could implement your particular ubb style settings and colors into the chat.

granted it is not too hard to convert your current colors manually. that's what i did the first time, but if you are someone who changes color template often, this would quickly become a pain.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/01/2001 6:36 AM
Iniaes: ZIP file updated (upload ubb_chat.cgi, cp_vars_chat.pl, cp_chat.cgi, vars_wordlets_mods.cgi, and if you can, vars_chat.cgi, if not, just choose whatever you want in the CP and click to update it.), and also, you didn't update ubb_forum_summary.cgi/public_forum_summary.pl correctly, it doesn't say anything at the bottom.

Mickie D: 2.5.1, files are included in the package.

BTW, to replace colors now, you can use calculator, choose "Hex", type the first 2 letters/digits, click on "Dec" and do the same to the 2 in the middle and last 2, and put it in the CP: "first_couple,second_couple,third_couple".

Either with bin or cab...it still gives the message "chat class not found"

Maybe it must be chmod, or uploaded as binary or ascii?

All files are in the good dirs, so i can't figure out where it went wrong.
How to let this work?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/01/2001 7:43 PM
Variables, in my other site, I can't see the chat because of the same reason but others can.
It's really weird because I can see other applets, but anyway there is no solution for it, it's something in Java.

If it's not that, what's your URL?

And it should be uploaded as binary, and on UNIX it should work fine with the default CHMOD, 644, but you can try 775/777.

LK, i've put the code into a html file. And it worked! Strange, but when i opened the UBB again with the chat...it worked! Before that it could'nt open the chat load class.

In Jpilot a chatter can send smileys in the chat text with ; ), or sounds etc. How can we tell the hack to do that?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/01/2001 8:03 PM
Variables: it does that in the new version.
Just redownload it and upload cp_chat.cgi, ubb_chat.cgi, cp_vars_chat.pl and FilterKeys/FilterVals lines of vars_chat.cgi.

About the sounds, rename them to sound_trigger.au, then type /s trigger, like sound_yahoo.au = /s yahoo

Examples of both can be seen in my testsite.

I just upgraded my board to 6.04e today and am wanting to install your great chat, but I cannot get the other hacks in mhk format.

I tried the SHW wordlets mod and got an error "Add text error..." message so I just gave up since 6.04e might have something different and the SHW is not updated.

Is there a place to get the Who's online and the wordlets in MHK format?

I like how it all works too nice setup. I missed the Voice Chat from days of old (created MUCH usage on my site), but now that is gone and I havent had a chat room since. I am typing too much.

I get complilation errors in ultimatebb.cgi does not say which line, However I have done your hack multiply times and does not work.

Do I have to have a license or do I have to install the chat program somehere on my server or is that what your chat zip file does? zips and unzips as needed?

Steel String: type regular smilies, like smile frown wink.
omegatron: It can be any file. Make sure you copied anything from the first line till the last one and in the correct place.
If you'll not find it, use MultiHack's uninstall option and the step it hasn't succeed is the wrong one.

I know I most likely don't have all my facts right and such but I have an IRC channel and I would like it so instead of using that jpilot stuff you could find another way of joining into that channel AND not having that annoying unregistered stuff. I want something where you just click the link that says chat here and it brings you to the page and instead of jpilot it opens some other program or window that has the IRC channel that the Administrator specified. The people who connect to the channel uses mIRC and the people who used the UBB Chat should be able to interact and if they have server op powers or such should be able to use them. In summary I just want a way to talk in the IRC channel without opening up IRC. And none of this made sense and i'm just babbling on and on an...

Open Who's Online page and the main page at the same time. Is it different?

frown My chat is trying to smile, it accepts the filterkeys string but it doesn't seem to be finding the assigned filtervals. It's just ignoring the smiley input and printing nothing to the screen. Is it just not finding those .gif files? If so, where is that defined?

This is a awesome hack, it's hard to believe this is your first. I sometimes go into the chat just to hang around, but it's getting kinda' boring with no smilies. wink

how do you make it so that everytime an admin enters he becomes a chatroom operator?.. kuz for me its whoever enters the room first becomes the operator.. then if the admin enters he's just a regular member.. the person whoever enterd first can kick even the admins out. that kinda sux... i want power!!
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/05/2001 11:02 AM
ruph, if you're still using DALnet:

Type: /nickserv register password email (password = a password you WON'T forget, Email = the REAL one),
Then type /chanserv register #channel password description (#channel = your channel's name, like #LK, password = a password you WON'T forget, may be another one than your nick's, description = what is your forums about).

Then tell an Admin/Moderator to register the nick aswell, /nickserv register password real-email, and you'll type /chanserv aop #channel add admin-or-mod's-nick

Example:

    [*]/nickserv register LKRulesEarth [email protected]

    [*]/chanserv register #LK LKForumsRule LK's Forum's Chatroom

    [*](Other Admins/Mods should do:) /nickserv register AnOtherPassword [email protected]

    [*]/chanserv aop #LK add Bah (Bah = other mod's nick in this case)

Now the admins should type /nickserv identify password, like /nickserv identify AnOtherPassword in this case, and /chanserv op #channel theirnick, like /chanserv op #LK Bah in this case.

If it's not clear enough, Gimme your chat's details and I'll meet you there.

LK.

Just an observation dont know if there is anything to help. I have done the hack many times. It works great but the who's online does not work. It says no one is in the chat. i can leave chat with people and reload who's online and it never says anyone is there. I did the 3.9a upgrade chat whos online etc.
Posted By: ruph Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/06/2001 4:07 AM
after upgrading whos online to 3.9 redownload the zip again and rehack ultimatebb.cgi and ubb_whos_online.cgi in the chat doc..
Posted By: omegatron Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/06/2001 5:35 AM
I have done that. It works when you start chatting. However after someone is in chat for a while it drops them alltogether off the who's online. This is more of a bug than anything else.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/06/2001 6:20 AM
omegatron, Who's Online drops inactive users after some time you choose. The info in the first page isn't taken from the applet, it's taken from Who's Online, and Who's Online can't know when a person leaves the UBB, so if he doesn't reload the page/change it in some time you choose in the CP, he's been removed from the list.
You can't see yourself there, because when you check the Main Page/Who's Online you'll be "Viewing: Main Page" or "Checking: Who's Online".

I hope you got what I mean. If anybody has any idea how to improve it, I'll appreciate your help. smile

Dreamer, I go the exact same problem. But I was installing a fesh copy of this chat and whos online. (I am making whos online invisible on my board, because I don't want it to show up, but I want the # of people in the chat to show up correctly.

Are you sure thant is line 368 in your script?

This is what you are supposed to add to part of your ultimatebb.cgi script. (This is what I added and I got the same error message as you. So I commented out 368 and the chat ran fine, but the info about the user being in the chat didn't show up in whos online.)

Code
code:

Commenting it out is lame because I want the person to appear in the whos online script so the # of people in the chat is correct.

So I tried this...

Code
code:

That allowed the chat to show up just fine. But for some reason no one is appearing in the whos online for the chat area. (Although, whos online is working great for the other parts of my board.) I am aware that if I go to the whos online page it will take my name from the chat section. So I have tried it with two seperate browsers (ie vs. netscape) with two seperate usernames. But this seems to also cause some weird things.

Any idea why whos online is not picking up on the chat area? Maybe there was a change in the coding for whos online since this chat scripts was made?

If I get you right, you mean you want the chat to be outside the UBB.

The easiest solution is to download jPilot jIRC pack from www.jpilot.com

Hope it helped smile

I looked at the directions and noticed this part

chat => "Chat",
FieldNameNick => "Nick Name:",
FieldNameNickPassword => "NickName Password:",
FieldNameChannel => "Channel:",
FieldNameChannelPassword => "Channel Password:",
FieldNameReal => "Real Name:",
FieldNameServer => "Server Name:",
FieldNameServerPassword => "Server Password:",
FieldNamePort => "Server Port:",
FieldNameURL => "Display URL",
FieldNameIdentd => "Enable Identd",
FieldNameConnectNow => "Connect Now!",
FieldNameCancel => "Cancel",
FieldNameAbout => "About",
FieldNameConfig => "Config",
FieldNameConnect => "Connect",
FieldNameDisconnect => "Disconnect",
FieldNameTitlePeople => "people",
FieldNameTitleTopic => "TOPIC",
FieldNameAudio => "Play Audio",
FieldNamePrivateClose => "Close",
FieldNamePrivateChatTitle => "Chat with: ",
FieldNameConnecting => "",
FieldNameConnected => "Connected, please wait....",
FieldNameConnectionClose => "Connection close.",
FieldNameQuitMsg => "Leaving",
whos_online_chatting => "Chatting",

Ok if I just do the hack and have the stuff above set to my current mirc chat will people be able to get inside to the chat?

Jus check out http://www.soldierfamily.com/chat.htm
thats the java chat that leads into the mirc chat. Thats what Im worried about because I use my chat with mirc. I hope you understand.

This mod is using IRC just like your applet does. Just set it up in the CP (Server Name, Channel Name).

Sorry for bugging you but I'm having a few problems.

1. The chatis not loading.
2. I dont want to have

Pointing to http://soldierfamily.com but instead to http://chat.hosting4u.net/ where the jirc scripts etc.. are.

Can you assist me please them are the only problems that I am having.

Posted By: Tim 3dfiles Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/10/2001 4:00 PM
I am also having the same problem with the chat saying 0 users. Was in there last night with 8 people for a half hour and it said 0-1 users. Having it show no one in the chat room is a dterrent for others to join. If it does not work, perhaps I should remove that part of the hack. That is something that should not be there if it does not work.

If the problem has been solved, let me know!

Thanks.

Your board shows the counter correctly, but it only shows if Who's Online shows it (less than 10 minutes, if no page was visited afterwards) because I don't think there is any way to take the information from the applet.

You can change "There is no one in the chatroom. Click here to join it." in ubb_forum_summary.cgi to "Click here to join the chatroom."

Chat Mod v1.0.23 released!

What's new? Invitation Script (by Olson), Graemlins list, Command Buttons and instructions (configurable from the CP), 100% Wordletized, added a workaround to Who's Online's problems.

Get MultiHack's update script from http://members.nbci.com/lkubb/chat-upg.mhp

Great work. The upgrade went in like a dream and worked fine. Thought i might mention that the chat needs to set again in the control panel for those upgrading. Might not be obvious to all.
Cheers.

PS if you have some better instructions for using the chat i could use them. Some of the commands i dont know what they do. CTCP for example.

I had version 1 up and running no problems. I went to do the latest version and there is a problem with the require ubb command. I hack per your instructions but it does not work. I upgraded my computer last night and do not have version 1 anymore. I love this hack and want to get it to work any ideas?

I have tried several time and each time It has a compilation error when the ubbchat.cgi is required line.

You don't REALLY need this part...

You're saying ONLY the category is invisible or the whole bar?

Try to clear your cache, and make sure you hacked public_forum_summary.pl/vars_wordlets_mods.cgi correctly.

ruph, you mean none of the smilies works or only the new ones of DPK's SmilieMod don't?

I can, and have, made everything work with SmilieMod, but there is a problem with /smilies directory... I think it's something in jPilot jIRC client.

I've even asked in their forums and they said it can't work:
http://www.jpilot.com/java/irc/ubb/contents/Forum1/HTML/000603.html

If you can move it to the regular (not /smilies) directory, I can make it be automatic. Is it fine?

MrQ, I didn't think anyone will use more than 1 channel because IMO it's the best to put all users in 1 channel so they can chat one with the other.

About the other thing, I dunno why does it happen. A workaround can be to add the ubb_whos_online.cgi that was removed in the upgrade (put it after $ct = $ci + $minutes;), and then remove the 'require "ubb_chat.cgi"' line from ubb_forum_summary.cgi.

With chat mod, when you try to login on the board it gives this error "Sorry, the password you entered is not correct", however it logs on the board... very weird.

Try to register yourself, then, log out, and try to login again. It will say, password incorrect!!! Your test board also gives this error.. i've checked hundreds of times, and i've hacked mine correctly.

hope you can solve this.. it's a great hack! wink

click, You're absolutely right!

Bug fixed, upload the new ubb_chat.cgi.

ruph: It's something with jPilot, maybe you didn't upload jirc_mss.zip, jirc_nss.cab or jirc_pure.zip correctly, or maybe it's something with F2S. I suggest you to ask in jPilot forums.

Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 06/20/2001 7:53 PM
No, it's impossible because of jIRC applet.
I can put 2 channels in the list, but the user can join only 1 at a time and can always type "/join #another-channel".

I have checked and rechecked my hacking, first I had a problem with using the hack installer (some of the files failed), then I did it manually. The chatroom worked for a second and then I got this error:

/usr42/home/cary22/public_html/cgi-bin/ubb/ubb_chat.cgi did not return a true value at /usr42/home/cary22/public_html/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi line 377.

Cool, worked for me also. Thanks.
Now to other question. When it takes me to the chat room it normally tells me that username is registered (for most names) so as the applet says "Some Servers Register" the usernames.
Is there any Server that won't Register the username so that the chat would just take the ones from UBB and go on.

I know if I search for this info on the IRC sites and check with them maybe I can found out but since this hack is so popular here maybe someone has been down this road already wink

LK Dont wanna take nothink away from your hack its a great one but i dont like to pay for anythink that i can get for free.
so ...

If you replace the applet that is used by the irc chat in ubb-chat.cgi for your own applet that you can get from Multicity, then you have your free chat.

Not only is Multicity free, its also alot faster logging in, and is a hell of alot securer too.
Just my 2 cents.

my board is set up with Multicity chat, i much prefer it.

Multicity also has language translation for all those Foreign members who could never join in before.

Hi, LK, great hack. My Chat was working for about 2 weeks when all of sudden after I installed UBB News 2, I received the following error similar to what some of the other users have gotten:

Software error:
/home/sites/site47/web/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ubb_chat.cgi did not return a true value at /home/sites/site47/web/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi line 374.

I've only looked around and have not yet touched anything so I'm sure the script has not been touched ever since I installed it.

when i change the style template for the chatroom it changes for the whole board, why is this? i would like to make my chatroom in a separate smaller window, which means a differnt template than the one i'm using but i have to keep the templates the same.

am i missing something or is this something that has been overlooked?

It's in vars_whos_online.cgi.

It takes the info of after how much time the name is removed from the list, and refreshes then.

It's called "Time until logged out" in the Who's Online Settings page.

About that temp fix, if it works, it can stay.

I called it temp because I may find an idea that looks more like the other ifs there...

duh on my part... i didn't even realize that the variable "vars_whos_online" was a who's online tag.... now i feel stupid.... rotf...

ok, well the patch for the templates worked great and this hack was very easy to install on my 6.04e (minus the headache of the template prob)... thankz for this one!!

and btw... can i use the earth time javascript you have on your test page? I didnt see any credits in it but i have been to the earth time website and didn't see anything there as well. so i would feel better asking than just taking...

thank again for everything!

What directory of my UBB should I upload the jIRC files?
How can I point to the chat page in my UBB cp?
Thank you.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/02/2001 3:38 PM
1. NonCGI
2. What do you mean? If you mean how to change the Chat Mod's settings, take a look at Primary Settings - Chat Settings.
Posted By: kesha1 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/02/2001 10:50 PM
Will it work with 6.04d?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/02/2001 10:57 PM
It's tested on 6.05, but it should work anywhere that Who's Online 4.0 does.
Posted By: kesha1 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/02/2001 11:16 PM
WOW!
THis was a VERY quick replay! Thank you.
1. I can't find the line ($ci,$name,$usrnum,$ip,$loc) = split(/|^|/,$online[$i]); in ubb_lib.cgi
I thought it was because of the version of my UBB I'm using (6.04d).
2. Because of that (I think) I don't have the word "Chat" on my "front page" of the Board, so I tried to point at it with /cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=chat but it just gave me
Undefined subroutine &main::WriteUserSession called at /home/sites/site89/web/secure/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi line 370.
3. I do have Who's On hack 3.9a working on my ubb.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/02/2001 11:31 PM
kesha,

It's because of your proxy/cache.

These were the instructions of the old version, the new one is totally different.

I hope http://members.nbci.com/lkubb/chat2.zip (a temp zip I put for you) is any better.
Posted By: kesha1 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/03/2001 5:09 AM
Hey LK,
It is working now,
But somehow it completely messed up the look ow the Who's online page. Now Who's Online look WHITE, the way it originally was, even though cp shows that the "Black" template is still assigned to it.
Same about the way chat page looks.
Can I do smtn about it?
Posted By: kesha1 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/03/2001 5:18 AM
I found it.
Somehow the settings for Who's Online and the Chat are controled by the chat settings smile
I don't mind.
Now I don't have the buttons icons, but I gues I'll find it around.
Another question:
How come I can see some other participants there, who don't belong to my UBB?
Can I do anything about it?
Thank you.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/03/2001 6:36 AM
If you can put a bot in the channel, you can make it locked with a key (+k key), and put it in the Channel Name Password of the CP.

The problem is, that everybody can see the password if they look at the source.

Posted By: kesha1 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/03/2001 11:11 AM
One more thing:
As soon as I choose in cp NOT to have the command bar in my chat, the cha wont start, it shows an error in line 375.
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/03/2001 1:38 PM
(1) I think (2) is a better solution
(2) Change Channel Name to another channel name, starting with # (like #hello), and register it your nick: /nickserv register password email , then you'll get an email from DALnet. Follow its instructions, and then register your channel: /chanserv register #channel password description (description = what is your UBB about).

(3) You're right... It worked before. Lookin' at it now.

Great hack, I love it!

Questions do,
* How do you get a Admin
* How do I play the sounds
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/03/2001 4:56 PM
To play sounds, type /s soundname, or click on the Sound commandbutton.

To add a new sound, put a file called sound_something.au in the noncgi dir, and then /s something

The first one to register a channel (as I explained in the post above) is the main admin, aka the founder. You can add more admins as SOps: /chanserv sop #channel add nick (their nicks should be registered as well), and AOp moderators: /chanserv aop #channel add nick

Ex. main admin: /nickserv register LKRules [email protected]
/chanserv register #LK LKForumsRuleEarth Computing Forum

regular admins: /nickserv register IAmAnAdmin [email protected]

main admin to sop regular admin: /chanserv sop #LK add Admin5

any admin to aop moderator: /chanserv aop #LK add Moderator

The founder should type /chanserv help set, and use any set commands he/she thinks it fits.

Ex. /chanserv help set, /chanserv help set keeptopic, /chanserv set #LK keeptopic on

Freestyle, it's really weird, it works in my testboard.

Maybe it's a problem with your proxy/Temporary Internet Files.

Get http://members.nbci.com/lkubb/chat2.zip , it's the same thing, but your proxy won't make any problem.

Hey LK,
1. The link to your file is down.
2. I was trying to contact you on your sites chat, your name was there, but you were probably in bed smile.
The only thing I want to find out where can I register my channel.
This is your quote:"and register it your nick: /nickserv register password email , then you'll get an email from DALnet."
I tried dalnet.com, nikser.com - didn't look like the right places to me smile
3. Is the invitation to download the chat plugin suppose to pop up EVERY time after I reboot my computer? Shouldn't it be installed just once?
Thank you.

You can use any irc server like irc.fdf.net, but you have to have a registered nickname in order to register your chat room . . .
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/04/2001 5:50 AM
1. Not now.
2. Type it inside the applet.
3. What do you mean?
Posted By: kesha1 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/04/2001 10:39 AM
With the new UBB_CHAT file I can ged rid of the buttons on the bottom, but the chat applet starts MUCH slower. It takes about 10 seconds to start. (WITH the buttons it starts immediately.)
Should I upload any other files from the new file besides ubb_chat?

kesha,
1. Maybe you're right, I used "return true" and maybe it slows something...

2.

    [*]To register your nick, inside the applet type:
    /nickserv register password email

    Ex. /nickserv register LKRules [email protected]

    [*]Then you'll get an email, follow its instructions.

    Ex. /nickserv auth LK 15457512487

    [*]Now, register your channel:
    /chanserv register #channel password forum's description

    Ex. /chanserv register #LK LKForumsAreTheBest Computing Forums.

    [*]Tell all other admins & moderators to also register.

    [*]To Admins, type /chanserv sop #channel add nick

    Ex. /chanserv sop #LK add TheDude

    [*]To Moderators, type /chanserv aop #channel add nick

    Ex. /chanserv aop #LK add kesha1

NOTE: don't forget your passwords, and they're case sensitive. To op yourself later, type:

    [*]/nickserv idenify password
    Ex. /nickserv identify LKRules

    [*]/chanserv op #channel yournick
    Ex. /chanserv op #LK LK

To have access to SOp/AOp/etc, type:
/chanserv identify #channel password

Ex. /chanserv identify #LK LKForumsAreTheBest

Some DALnet servers accept eggdrops on a shell.

If you don't have a shell, you can run your own IRCd ( https://www.ubbdev.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=000196 ), or use very small networks that accept anyone just to make their record bigger tipsy

New version released.

In the SmilieMod version, I accidently used the old ubb_chat.cgi, so it wouldn't remove the invitation icon and will have an error if you choose to not have commandbuttons.

The newer version fixes that, and also adds 8 servers and 8 channels support. If they're empty in the CP, they won't be used in the HTML.

Upload: ubb_chat.cgi, cp_chat.cgi, cp_vars_chat.pl.

I have seen some questions on how to make ones own channel for the chat mod.

As someone already mentioned, you can register a channel on DalNet, undernet, EFNet and so on.

But you can also set up your own ircserver, running either on your own windows/unix machine, or you can put the server on a shellaccount.

The best ircserver today, is the Unreal 3.1.2-Darkshades
It is made both for unix/linux and Windows.
It is very well documented, and you can get all the support you need to set it up at #unrealircd channel on irc.ircsystems.net

If you want services, like ChanServ, NickServ, MemoServ e.g. you can set up the IRCServices v4.5.20 and link it to your UnrealIRCD server.
Support for this is given at #ircdservices channel on irc.ircsystems.net

ALL of this software and support are FREE!!

If you are not able to run this on your own machine, the UnrealIRCD folks recommend the shell service at ice-fox

Hope this can be of some help to make it more fun and useful to install the great chatmod laugh

BTW, too bad html is not enabled, course the code above you can use on your website to make your ircclient start, and connect just by clicking on the link

Yep what LK said... I viewed the source and found the tag.. Thankz to the ubb staff for adding that mod! lol

And thankz LK for the comments about the board layout and chat interface mods. if ya like the user buttons you should see the admin buttons... There are more buttons on the admin side here look at the pic for yourself and see.
The User Chat Interface
The Admin/Mod Chat Interface

Also for anyone interested here is the code i have added to ubb_chat.cgi to allow only certain members to have admin/moderator actions of the channel. (chat moderators have to be setup on the chat server as well)
Chat Admin/Moderator Buttons

Of corse this mod is hardcoded in ubb_chat.cgi, but if anyone is interested in helping me write a mod to allow the ubb admin to add chat moderators via a cp interface this would be cool...

Also i have rewritten the entire html portion of this mod as well as every other part of my ubb and if anyone is interested in seeing the full ubb_chat.cgi file let me know and i'll post a link to a text file.

Here is the link to my chat interface if anyone is interested in viewing it ... http://www.tribliss.com/forums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=chat

I also have a full list of all NickServ, ChanServ, and NoteServ chat commands if anyone needs them. They should work on most chat servers.

Actually, I don't agree... "live" chat and discussion forums are quite different. In the case of chat, the interaction is spontaneous and the participation and sharing of the knowledge is limited to those who happen to be present at the moment. With discussion forums, the information is there for all to appreciate at their convenience.

One of the sites we run is a blues music portal with a modified 6.x UBB and several of our members have voiced their opinion in favour of a chat service. The dilemna is twofold; 1) finding a suitable chat application that integrates well with the UBB user base - such as this hack and 2) finding a way to organize chats with client base that is truly global.

The other important concern is that our clients will miss out on the information being shared by people who happen to be in the room.

The beauty of a UBB is that the topics are there on demand - space considerations notwithstanding, a visitor can benefit froma discussion days or weeks after the original posting...

smile This chat hack looks promising, and we will most likely integrate it once it is closer to final.

I installed this on 6.04, and the Multihack went fine. It works perfectly.....except for one minor thing. It killed my WOL 4.0.

Not only is the WOL gone from the pages, it's gone from the CP. I tried this on my test board against a 1 hour old backup of my live board.....3 times, 3 different backups.

Am I missing some obvious step?

Xpert, The problem is that you didn't copy the new files (after hacking Who's Online) from MultiHack's output directory to MultiHack's source directory, so it hacked from the backups.

I suggest you to install Who's Online again, then copy from output directory to source directory, then Chat Mod again, then do the same thing.

If you don't want to do it anytime, you can choose in MultiHack's options window "Search output directory first".

Hope it helped smile

Bandit, You have to hack the HTML manually, or put it in the header/footer (but then it won't be where it should).

Posted By: RandyM Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/15/2001 4:34 PM
Well, I tried it again, and as soon as I finich, and upload the files from the output folder, I lose the WOL, and it disappears from the CP. I checked cp_common.pl and it's fine. It also gives me a runtime error in IE 6.0

I'm not in a hurry on this one, so I'll tinker with it some more. Funny thing is, it's probably partially caused by the clocks that I added to the WOL table, even though they are totally contained inside of an existing table and shouldn't cause any havok..
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/15/2001 4:54 PM
I know what your problem is, it's because of what I said before.

Know what, just check "Check output directory first" option in MultiHack's options, then REMOVE the output dir and install Who's Online and Chat Mod.
Posted By: RandyM Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 07/15/2001 6:05 PM
I did exactly as you said, but I still get the same error. I'm going to uninstall some of the hacks I've done myself and see if one of them is interfering. I think it has something to do with the clocks...you can see it here..

LK, I have something strange happening on my chatmod too. laugh

I have the Dynamic-FX Slide-In Menu (v 6.5) installed all over the UBB, also on the Chat page.

The strange thing is that the slide in menu slide out BEHIND the chatapplet instead of in FRONT of it.

Also there is something strange happening with the wording from nickserv inside the chatapplet.
Specialy the centense "/msg NickServ IDENTIFY password Otherwise," is totaly messed up.
I have checked that this is not happening if I log on to the server using mIRC, so I guess it must be a bug in the applet or something similar.

Have a look at this
[Linked Image]

Are there something to be done to fix this two issues?

kaukagaul,
The first bug occurs in all javas.

In the chat mod, the syntax is /nickserv identify , so maybe yours doesn't support the alias /nickserv. To fix it, in the CP - Alias, type /nickserv=/msg nickserv

LK,

I've noticed a couple of bugs/problems with your hack, use my forum to see:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/cgi-bin/ubb2/ultimatebb.cgi

1) The '?' instructions page seems to be outputting the text incorrectly, it also doesn't format well for differen't styles.

2) The "Who's Online" integration doesn't work, in fact I've never seen it work on other forums using it. This morning we had 8 people using it as a test through the forum and they sat there for 20 mins, still kept saying 'no one'.

I went to one of the mods forums to test it as well, same problem and yes the latest WOL is installed (v4.0.1 [6.04e]).
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 08/06/2001 4:45 PM
Allen, it's pretty easy, but when I try it it says I don't have the ID or something, so I can't really test it.

Mark,

1) In the next version (for 6.1) you'll be able to choose its height/width.
2) I tested it in your board using my clone, and it showed it just fine. Don't forget it won't include yourself, any user that isn't using jIRC or anyone that opens a new window after the chat in the last 10 minutes
Posted By: mark99 Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 08/06/2001 6:26 PM
If it won't include myself then if there's me and another online that'd = 1. Any way to fix this?
Posted By: LK Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 08/06/2001 7:11 PM
It won't include yourself because if you enter the main page to check it, you'll be "Viewing: Main Page" instead of "Chatting".

LK:

I want to add this hack to my ubb at http://www.pokemon-trading-cards.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi asap, however I have 1 problem.

My site is using the COPPA check for registrations etc.. and I have a LOT of underage members.

I would like to set up the chat room to only allow registered members (who are currently logged in AND has posting provledges set to ON) access to the chat room.

anyone not logged in must be prevented from entering the chat room. If a 9 year old cant post messages yet he shouldnt be able to chat either. Also, if we remove posting privledges from a member, it should block access to the chat room as well.

I saw 1 person ask about this but in the 19 pages of responses here but I never saw an answer.

If these features are not already included in your hack, I would be happy to discuss a special mod just for me if the $$ is right.

Posted By: webwolfe Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 09/23/2001 5:31 AM
LK,

The chat mod is working great, and I only have one problem:

I have the COPPA checks in place and require underage children to either mail or fax in a signed permission form to be able to post messages. Im sure you know these accounts are set with posting privledges set to Off by default.

With the code above, it does require that you are logged in to the site, however it does not do any sort of check to see if the user's posting privledges are set to off.

The whole idea of the COPPA regulations is to prevent underage children from revealing personal information to the public... so if they cant post messages in a public forum then they certainly cant have access to a public chat room. Anyone using the COPPA checks for legal protection are at risk using this chat.

As it is now, I can remove posting privledges on a user, remove their ability to send PM's and alter their profile, but there is no way to prevent them from entering the chatroom.

Have a couple of problems LK so bare with me.

1) You can't see everyone else. Only yourself.
2) Added my registered number, but still showing the unregistered message.
3) Above where the smilies are at, have a broken image to the non-cgi folder. I can't figure out what is causing this. Also the smilies are linked to the wrong ones.
4) Will everyone on my board be able to use their UBB username for this or do they have to reregister?
5) What are the commands to make Admins/Mods and what is the difference that both can do?

My priority is really getting this to work where everyone can see each other and able to read their messages. Plus that registration removed. I added the number, but it still shows it. Yes I did clear the cache as well. wink

5. The main admin should register the channel (register your nick as explained in #4 and then /chanserv register #channel password description), sop (/chanserv sop #channel add nick) other admins and aop (/chanserv aop #channel add nick) moderators.

All of them have to have registered nicks.

The jIRC license I figured it out. Registered it to my redirect URL address instead of the IP address of the server. Duh!! eek

Also the smilies don't work with what you said. It didn't correct the problem. All well, no big deal. tipsy

For the #1 question, how do I correct that? Is it something in the Chat Settings I have to do? I left it at default.

As for making my own channel, is their some requirements for that?
Posted By: Terminator_X Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 10/05/2001 5:26 AM
Ok LK. Everything is working now and I fixed the smilies problem.

You will get a broken image link IF you add more then one charector space between the image file names in the Chat Settings in CP.

One last problem to solve. I don't know how to make a channel. Not register, but make it. It says I need to admin a channel first.

Can you tell me how to do that and if I can't, is their another way to set Admins/Mods?

Thanks LK.

I think it means the channel is already registered, try another name (like if your board is called Destiny's Capital and #destinyscapital is taken, you can use #destinycapital, #destinys-capital, etc).

Looks like a great hack, but could you reupload the zip file please? It seems to be corrupt, and I need it as I can't get Multihack to install. Cheers.

It definitely won't open in WinZip for me, but I just tried Winrar and that extracted 17 .class files.

Edit to say: Got it now! What was happening was your server was cutting me off when I got 150k of the file for some reason, so I used GetRight to resume the download and get the last bit of the file.

Now that I am installing it though, I have another problem :)

In the ubb_forum_summary.cgi file, when I am told to find this code three times

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">code:

I can only find it once. I am sure this is because of another hack I have installed, and it seems to be Easys hit couner from what I can tell. Any way around this??

Please disregard the above, I got it figured out smile

Great mod, although I'm not convinced that it's working properly with Who's Online. I got a mate to go in the chatroom and it showed "1 person in the chatroom" but a couple of minutes later this seemed to have vanished.

Is there any way of adding my own .au sounds? I did try uploading one but it didn't seem to work.

Neil: upload noncgi/sound_trigger.au, then /s trigger

melder: Maybe you should try another server. BTW, is it just me, or it keeps refreshing the iframe thing? Make sure you have $vars_whos_online{inactive_time} set correctly.

LK,
Just a quick question....
Does your hack work with 6.1?
My members would hunt me down and kill me if I upgraded and lost the chat room!
Thanks for the best hack ever!

And the user name?

I tried a keymaker, but they regognized it frown

Thanx,

You have to buy it, with how you spell it, M-O-N-E-Y :rolleyes:
Posted By: Schrapnell Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 10/22/2001 7:31 PM
Well yes, I know it.

But I want to use the evaluation license which was included with the original file.

Could you please post THAT eval license please? I overwrote it with my fake key and now I cant use the aplet any more.

Thanx,
Schrapnell

There isn't a license key for the evalution version, I don't see any reason it won't work.

What's your board's url?
Posted By: Schrapnell Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 10/22/2001 8:06 PM
I found the key.
Thanks.

Hmm.. Why do I have the feeling it's the license key? tipsy
Posted By: Schrapnell Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 10/23/2001 11:15 AM
Hi again,

perhabs I do not understand the method of this license.

I thought that if I use the evaluation license (which shows the two lines "Unregistered etc.." in each posting), I can use it unlimited. I see the two lines, but that is my problem.
If I don't want to see those two lines any more I register. Am I right?
You see, for me it is so far ok to see the two lines for a time. I want to check if my users accept the chat or not.

But although the evaluation copy lines appear, the aplet shows me:

[Linked Image]

when I want to log on. Try it under http://forum.leo-clubs.de

Yesterday evening and this morning for aprox. 2 hours the aplet worked fine (with the evaluation lines), but suddenly it showed me the above line.

Does the author of the aplet remarque that I use it (perhaps too often??) and closes my domain? Is that possible?
Or a kind of database at jpilot.com which checks live and online the domains who are using the aplet?

Can you help me please?

Schrapnell

Oh, I thought you meant something else tipsy

It's not the applet that is doing that, it's DALnet.

Make sure you typed in a username, and if it still doesn't help maybe DALnet blocked your ISP.

In the CP, try to use irc.webchat.org instead of the DALnet servers.

OK, THAT prob is solved! Thank you!!

But have a look on this:

[Linked Image]

You see? The two names normally should be in 2 different colored lines.
Just for your information...

LK,

The mod has been working GREAT! Thanks again for all the work you have put in to it.

You know my site is large (16,000+ members) and they have identified 1 bug that I cannot fix.

Users are complaining that they are getting chat invite popups that do not show the person who sent the invite. It says "Invite From: " (just blank)

I am able to duplicate this by logging in as admin and sending an invite to anyone... everyone I send to gets a blank invite popup.

However many other members are able to send invites with no troubles.

Also, A few times I have went to the site and logged in, and then immediately get a blank invite popup... I dont see how anyone could have sent me an invite when I wasnt logged in. What happens if someone invites me to chat and I log off or close the browser window before I get the popup?

You can see an active discussion of this bug from the members who are reporting it here

webwolfe: I have no idea, but if someone is exploting it, you should just disable the invitation feature from the CP...
Posted By: webwolfe Re: [6.0x] Chat Mod 1.0.23 - 11/23/2001 7:34 PM
its not being exploited.

every time i send an invite to members it is blank. This is an easily duplicated bug, not somone exploiting the invite button.

Members have been complaining of this bug since the day i installed the chat

I have no idea what's causing it, but try the 6.1.0 code:

I am going to let every one know to keep an eye out. Thanks once again for the speedy replies!

HI LK!

Thks for the awesome hack as many of the users who are helping me test it enjoys it. I only have a question in regards to the sound. Although I have it enabled and uploaded the .au files, how do I get them to work?

THANKS!

This hack is fantastic... I just have a question.
When I installed Who's Online 4.1, I was given special instructions if I wanted the "Who's Online" to appear at the top like a categoy...

The "ChatRoom Catgory" is displayed at the bottom... What do I have to edit to have it at the top ??, just under my who's online.

I'm French, so please excuse my English.

Regards,
Cedric SIROT.

I have got it installed and working right but I am not sure if I understand the irc correctly.

The chat takes the username from the board and you are logged on to chat with it. Most of the usernames are already registered by someone else at Dalnet (or will be with most servers) so unless I am using my own IRC server users will be prompted to change the username.
I had first thought usernames are unique per channel only but I guess I was wrong they are per Server.

Is it possible to add some code where it will add a random number at the end of the username like it is adding at the end of the Guest?. The users at my board would be confused by messages prompting them to change their names.
This way atleast the users may not have the change the name and with Who's online people know who is in there anyways.

Thanks for the great hack... :-)

Hi,

How can I put a link to the chat next to the "Search"-Link at the top of the forumspage?

Please help

I don't have 6.05 therefore I don't know how to put it after search, but that's how you put it after forum home:
open ubb_lib.cgi
find:
=====
$vars_wordlets{forum_home_link}
add after:
==========
| chat
