Great Job qasic, I am glad you released this for 6.1.
I will probably be adding this to my forums when I upgrade.
Hi this is junhyok who already registered at your web site...
I can't get into your web site today.
Even I benned from your web site.
Can you help me?
Have you registered @ Qasic.NET?
qasic
I have, but I think I'm still on the list that you haven't approved =/ Anyways, I can't wait to install this!! ^_^
Hedwig, you've been approved. Just try every hour or so; you'll eventually be approved unless there is a problem.
qasic
Thanks q!! I'll add that now ^_^
Yes I'm already registerd at you website a month ago.
Do I have to register again?
Qasic.NET did not exist one month ago.
qasic
Great hack Qasic, I'll have to do WOL first on my 1,4 before I do this. Thanks for releasing it. ^_^
Nice job, Qasic. I will look into this whenever my site gets back up.
I'll send you the mail that you sent me for registration at your site...Okay?
Junhyok
Sorry, going to get beat with a steel bat if I ask my question here.
[ September 09, 2001: Message edited by: TheLizardKing ]
junhyok,
(If you haven't figured it out yet), you registered at qasic.COM not qasic.NET.
I registered and got my password like 2-3 days ago. Still waiting for approval
I'm waiting for a 'Problem' to be sorted out.
Why do these have to be locked away?
All registartions have been processed except the ones relating to fordmoneo - I still need to make a decisin on that.
qasic
You said that its easily modified to allow users to upload their own, do you have that code?
Qasic, I'm getting this error when I try to access a users profile to edit it:
And this one when I try to access the CP option to MANAGE Avatars:
And this one when I try to access the AVATAR SETTINGS option under CP:
Any thoughts?
I used the auto-install feature. I had to edit some stuff in there to work with the changes I made in my cp_common.pl file (to prevent other mods or admins from doing damage), and it worked great. If these are problems because of that auto-install, let me know. I plan to attempt a manual sometime today. I'll check back with info on that later...
Thanks for the great hacks!
You probably did not upload the avatar-related templates and cgi files.
qasic
OMG I'm retarded! For some reason, I thought the install program made those files.
Awesome hack Qasic, as usual!
Like I said in the ReadMe, auto install is not supported
qasic
ZIP file updated with a little bug fix inside the auto-installer.
Hack works fine on UBB 6.1 Pubic Beta 2.1.
qasic
hi
i install this hack and get
Undefined subroutine &main::GetAvatarImg called at /home/fatal/users/f-miigaik/public_html//ubb2/Templates/public_topic_page.pl line 126.
Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you!

Strange how many times Qasic,needs to say the same thing in the same thread
i have a small problem,everything works great but members are somehow using the picture field in thier profile to link to images.These now show under thier member titles.
if i disable the picture field,then the avatar field does not display,when i look in my own profile.
I hope that makes sence,basically some members probably new ones are getting the Your Picture option,and adding thier own links to pics not on our server.
I want to disable the your picture field,while still having an avatar field show at registration, and in our profiles.
i'm using 6.1.0 release
[ 10-23-2001: Message edited by: Sc0rpion ]
Hey Qasic..I'm having a rather odd problem. I'm SURE it's just me, because I haven't modded my board since July or so, and just started again now that 6.1 is out (well, remodding).
Basically, with the Avatar hack AND believe it or not the mod wordlets, I cannot access the Control Panel applets for them, they all tell me I don't have access..which makes no sense to me.
Any thoughts?
Sc0rpion: As stated at the top of the Avatar Readme, Avatars REPLACE the picture field so that's where you conflict resides
DGMayor: It looks as if you replaced your hacked cp.cgi with the original cp.cgi. Re-hack cp.cgi and you should be fine. For Mod Wordlets, I suggest you re-had cp_wordlets.cgi
qasic
As usual, Qasic to the rescue. New problem now. When I try to view my avatar list from the profile, it gives me the following:
CGI ERROR
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:
Can't locate UBBCGI.pm in @INC (@INC contains: ./Modules . c:/Perl/lib c:/Perl/site/lib) at c:lmallaubbcgi2avatarlist.cgi line 17.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at c:lmallaubbcgi2avatarlist.cgi line 17.
I haven't touched the beta/preview versions of 6.1, so the UBBCGI.pm deal is totally new to me..
BTW, you rock my world Qasic
[ 10-24-2001: Message edited by: DGMayor ]
Heya, have you just recently downloaded Avatar Hack for 6.1? If so, download it again. I think I added a line which fixes that for Windows-related servers. If not, I'll add it in for the next beta release.
qasic
downloaded as of two days ago. I won't be putting the 6.1 up for a bit, want to get it back in line to where my 6.05 is, so I'll just ignore it for now and wait for your next release.
Thanks Qasic.
Great hack.... a few suggestions though..
since i've got almost 10k members, uploading custom avatars for everyone would be impossible, and coming from the old hack, they expect to be able to have their own, not just supplied ones.
an upload tool in conjunction, like you said, would be dope. right now i've got to find something for them to use, but it also makes me wary about having people upload to my server.
For this reason, it would almost be cool to have both the option of using the supplied avatars as well as being able to link to their own on their own servers...
anyhow, good job once again. it's a nice hack..
Linking images from one server to another for an avatar is not a good idea. This steals bandwidth not only from your system but that of the server hosting the image. Most systems frown upon this behavior.
I personaly would love to have an upload feature that set specific file size and display image (able to resize)
Hola ! Qasic, you said this is easily hacked in, would you be so kind to give us instructions ?
Muc use Ely's upload hack
Man I know that upload hack but what I wanted to recommend is to connect it with the avatar mod, right now they are two complete different hacks, and thats not what I want. See, you should be able to upload your avatar from the profile, your solution is to let them upload a picture included in their posting, that's not the point.
Got it ?
yeah I understood but instead of modifying the reply template modify the avatar template
And if anyone ever did this before, don't boggle to post the code
Right now I'm damn short in time...
well I wanted to take a look but the link is down. (also i am not sure how perl can check the size in pixel of a picture)
have a look at the upload thread, link is not broken but you have to do it with right click and save target as...
ok the way I see it is too add:
right after
in ubb_avatar.cgi, I haven't tried it for any side effect tho ..
But how will this picture be connected with the user who uploaded it ? Even if you can force the filename of the image to be like membernumber.gif/jpg, how will it automatic be inserted ?
well you have to make it upload to the custom directory ans then add a message asking to refresh profile page, the custom avatar text will then appear
would you mind going online in icq for a second ?
Muc, you want to install the Avatar hack, but have them link their own images right.
Well install the AVAtar hack, but do not install the hack part in the CP. This will leave Custom Field 3 open and you enter the link.
Real easy.
[ 10-27-2001: Message edited by: John A. MacDonald ]
then you don't need the avatar hack and just add a line in the template to call the image field.
I never thought of that, you are right. I can toast most of the stuff.
Are you guys trying to use the upload hack to upload custom avatars to a custom directory for this avatar hack? Like uploading as the user number.gif?
if so, i have the code for it if that's what you want. It works and been tested.
I am getting that same error! Has anyone figured out a fix yet?
yes, but also checking that there isn't allready a user_number image in the directory in order to delete it if needed
Manik,
find inside avatarlist.cgi:
($0 =~ m!(.*)(\|/)[^/\]+!) && unshift(@INC, $1, "$1$2Modules");
and add above:
# Get the script location: UNIX / or Windows /
($0 =~ m,(.*)/[^/]+,) && unshift (@INC, "$1");
# Get the script location: Windows
($0 =~ m,(.*)\[^\]+,) && unshift (@INC, "$1");
qasic
I'm having some javascript problems like these.
and
any ideas? btw, i'm NOT using the xhtml hack.
Thanks qasic!
one question: what path should go into that UBBCGI.pm file?
do i get rid of the # at the beginning and then something like:
C:pathtemp for the pathname? this is a win2k server.
[ 11-04-2001: Message edited by: Manik ]
Hey Qasic,
Its still not working for me. I get the same error
Do I need to alter permissions for UBBCGI.pm? Or map .pm to perl.exe? Tia!
Is this compatible with the UBB Accelerator in 6.1?
Steve
Steve, yes it's compatible w/ accelerator.
qasic
Great Hack as I've seen it on many boards.
Now that i have set up my own board I have tried to install it but keep getting ths same problem. Installed 3x with same prob.
When i access my cp it tells me that my avatar dir does not exist...........
I have set thr perms to 777 and it is in the noncgi dir as stated in the instuctions
User reg screen coems up with this error:
An error has occured:
Undefined subroutine &main::AvatarGutsProfile called at /home/sites/site99/web/Ubb/Templates/public_edit_profile.pl line 203.
I am using this on ubb6.1 final with the stars hack.
Some help on this would be great
thanx

re: the vertical alignment issue
i remember in the v6.0 avatar hack, there was an editted version that fixed the vertical alignment of posts
if a user's post is only 1 line, and their avatar is taller than the post, the post, post icons, and member information (all the stuff on the right side) become vertically centered, instead of properly space (with the top stuff towards the top, the post just beneath it, and the bottom info on the bottom).
any chance on gettin the "recipe" for that fix again?
hi friends, I installed addon correctly, happens that in the hour to
place addon it goes normally obtains to visualize it all normal one.
But in my postagens avatar that I leave does not appear what it can be
happening? Please they help me.
Does this auto-resize everyones image to a standard size? I installed the Jimbo hack for custom titles and ranks, which can do HTML (therefore I can insert avatars) but the pics retain their size -- whether small or large.
thanks.
Found an error in the code!!!
In: public_register_page_kid.pl
code:
FIND:
# other registration fields follow:
ADD AFTER:
require "$vars_config{CGIPath}/avatar_list.pl";
&AvatarGutsProfile;
Should be:
code:
ADD AFTER:
require "$vars_config{CGIPath}/ubb_avatar.cgi";
&AvatarGutsProfile;
First time I was able to fix code myself
I gotta say that when the wordlets initially turned up in French (
), it nearly threw me for a loop, but I read the mighty find directions and figured it out!
Thanks for getting this hack set-up for the latest UBB, Qasic. My board loves its avatars!
Hi,
Great hack but I'm having some serious problems.
I want users to be able to link to their own Avatar so they can simply put in the URL but also choose one of the ones we provide if they don't have one.
Currently, if they want their own, I have to do it for everyone via the cp.
Now once I have done this it works fine unless they edit their profile in anyway. Once they edit their profile they loose the avatar....why?
To summarise:
1. I want to fix the bug with them loosing their avatar when they edit their profile.
2. I want them to be able to link to their own avatar as well as choose one in the list without me having to do it for them in the cp.
Please help this is driving me mad.

Nokia,
I don't have the answers to your one bug issue, but I think I can speak for those who create these hacks that this idea won't work--and there is a very simple reason why--bandwidth theft.
Too many people would see an avatar that they like somewhere else and direct link to it. It would be a nightmare on your part to monitor this.
My members love the avatars; if they want a custom one, I simply have them send it to me, and then I take care of it for them. A hassle, yes? But much, much better than having to monitor for bandwidth theft.
Hi Mate,
Thanks for replying
Thanks again.

Lord Dexter, have you checked Primary Settings -> Avatar Settings and the wordlets are not there? Checked to make sure vars_wordlets_avatar.cgi begins with %vars_wordlets_avatar = (
qasic
Sorry qasic I got this fixed a while ago. The wordlets were in the wrong order.
ok I tried to install this hack but now when I click on profile search faq nothing shows up do you know what's wrong?
Incorrect hacking in ubb_profile.cgi probably the most likely culprit.
qasic
there was only one line in that and I checked it and it was right but I reuploaded all the files I backed up and still having that error? Any ideas I'm having JC at ubbdesign right now checking it out, I wonder what I did

qasic
Qasic are you supporting the Auto-install? Or just the manual install?
Only manual install is support. Auto-install is only provided for convenience.
qasic
Heya Qasic,
I added the code you recomended above
($0 =~ m!(.*)(\|/)[^/\]+!) && unshift(@INC, $1, "$1$2Modules");
My code now looks like this:
# Note: If you ain't Infopop or an Infopop licensee, you DON'T HAVE ANY
# right to use it!
############################################################################
# Get the script location: UNIX / or Windows /
($0 =~ m,(.*)/[^/]+,) && unshift (@INC, "$1");
# Get the script location: Windows
($0 =~ m,(.*)\[^\]+,) && unshift (@INC, "$1");
($0 =~ m!(.*)(\|/)[^/\]+!) && unshift(@INC, $1, "$1$2Modules");
use lib("./Modules", "."); # in the event $0 is not set
The new error is:
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:
Can't locate UBBCGI.pm in @INC (@INC contains: ./Modules . F:/Perl/lib F:/Perl/site/lib) at F:InetpubTestAlteredDestinycgi-binavatarlist.cgi line 22.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at F:InetpubTestAlteredDestinycgi-binavatarlist.cgi line 22.
Basically, the error is occuring in line 22 instead of line 17 now.
I'll toy with it a bit to see if i can figure it out. If you have any ideas, they would be much appreciated.
hey Qasiq or anyone able to help me, in the cp.cgi when I am trying to install the vars_worldets_mods.cgi it cant find
[code][/code]
so I cant finish installing it... what can I do?
Qasic, i got it.
To fix this error:
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:
Can't locate UBBCGI.pm in @INC (@INC contains: ./Modules . F:/Perl/lib F:/Perl/site/lib) at F:InetpubTestAlteredDestinycgi-binavatarlist.cgi line 17.

In avatarlist.cgi Find:
use UBBCGI qw(:cgi);
use UBBCGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser set_message);
Replace with:
use CGI qw(:cgi);
use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser set_message);
Seemed to have fixed my problem -- however, i don't know what the repricusions are.

Both of you try this.
Find:
($0 =~ m!(.*)(\|/)[^/\]+!) && unshift(@INC, $1, "$1$2Modules");
use lib("./Modules", "."); # in the event $0 is not set
and replace with:
BEGIN {
($0 =~ m!(.*)(\|/)[^/\]+!) && unshift(@INC, $1, "$1$2Modules");
use lib("./Modules", "."); # in the event $0 is not set
}
LMK how this goes.
FYI, using UBBCGI is better; it's faster
qasic
heh, i just saw the BEGIN{} code down in ultimatebb.cgi, and was just about to try what you have recomended. brb -- i'll let ya know how it goes.
Yes, the BEGIN code takes care of the problem as well. I adjusted my lines of:
use CGI qw(:cgi);
use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser set_message);
back to the original:
use UBBCGI qw(:cgi);
use UBBCGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser set_message);
as well -- just to verify that the updated code produced the desired effect.
Hi,
I actually had that code in my own avatarlist.cgi because a paid client of mine encoutered the same problem. Stupid Windows servers
I'll update the one on my website when I get a chance
qasic
Does the avatar hack works with 6.2 beta 1 w/accel ?
I haven't tried but I don't see why not - hacking in this avatar hack is extremely minimal.
qasic
Thanks Qasic, going to try it
Hi Qasic,
I got kind of a stupid question. In the instructions "avatar_hack_install_1_0.txt
it says:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT FOLLOWS IS OPTIONAL. YOU MAY DO THIS IN YOUR CONTROL PANEL NOW. GO TO
:::::::::: CODE HACKING SECTION :::::::::::::::::
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heres the stupid part , I went to my control panel but I can't find CODE HACKING section anywhere...
Please let me know I'm using 6.1.0.3
Thanks
Rainner
Well, here I go again talking to myself hehe...
I got it all working fine. Real nice hack Qasic, thank you!
My last thing is getting the french to english, I seem to have missed that part in the instructions.
Later all
Rainner
yawn... just me again. Avatars are working great but I just can't find the awy to add the english instead of the frech. Please give me a clue
I didn't see it in the install instructions.
Thanks
Rainner
It's in the instructions. Look harder.
q
Or you could use Babblefish at AltaVista...
It's near the top of the instructions, between 'what follows is optional' and the 'code hacking section' labels...IMHO the english wordlets should go near the end, but that's just IMHO.
In the file would be better.
I got it working on 6.2 beta 1.
One thing is that when a user try to register it do not shows up on the registration page. I checked the public_register_page.pl and everything looks ok?
Have you enabled the picture field in registration?
qasic
Yes the picture field is an optional field
********************************

Change this to relfect a path a directory inside your webserver that is CHMOD 777.
what am i supposed to change it to? can someone give me an example
maurice, try rehacking public_register_page.pl and ubb_registration.cgi
Rock,
This is the path on your server where files will be temporarily stored when Avatars are uploaded in the Control Panel. If you're on UNIX, you don't need to touch this. If you're on Windows, I recommend you to set this to your UBB cache directory, such as d:/ubb/cache-fj3974fa

See the top of your ultimatebb.cgi. Replace the first line of avatarlist.cgi with the one from ultimatebb.cgi. If you have further questions, please provde me with the URL to your UBB.

qasic I have a question.
Does this hack work well along with your Custom Title/Rank v1.1 installed?
Yup, fully compatible w/ Jimbo.
qasic
Qasic another question.
I installed your hack on my board witch is v6.1.0.4
The avatars work great, but problem is I noticed is when a member has a picture in their profile, it shows as the profile picture instead of the avatar they selected. Only way I can correct this is clear cache and it's fixed, but they can't select a avatar due to their profile picture. It does not make a seperate field for avatars.
I also noticed when you select a avatar image, it goes into your picture field.
Now I don't know of this is a bug or I did something wrong witch I doubted. But do you know a way to fix this and seperate the avatars from the picture field with their own?

Hey Terminator_X,
I just installed the hack myself and didn't realize that some of our users had pictures in their profile. I read the instructions that came with the hack but again, I stupidly assumed that my members didn't have pictures or was brain dead at the moment and didn't care
Anyway, what a suprise I got when I surfed my forums and noticed that there were some that had pictures, and they showed up as their avatar. I wish I could disable the picture field without messing up the avatars but since I already installed it, I wish there was a way to "get rid" of the picture field.
By the way, I really like the hack!! It installed perfectly. I just wish I would have read the instructions a little more carefully before installing on our "live" forums. I probably would have still installed it due to our members "hounding the admins" about this feature.
Jon "RoC" Kolman
At the very top of the avatar hack it says that it replaces the picture field
The workaround I suggest is that you can remove the picture by manually removing the URL from the user's profile if you like.

So their is no way to work around this and give Avatar it's own field? My members are not going to be pleased.
Worked great for me on 6.1, but now I'm trying to get it to work with 6.2. Installed with no problems, but when I go to change my avatar through the dropdown menu, IE gives me an error, something like:
Error: 'document.forms.0.picture[...].value is null or not an object.
Any ideas on whats going wrong?
Thanks.
Any ideas?
