I think it would be nice if we can show visitors something like the post was posted 3 minutes ago instead of the time it was posted.

Example, take a loot at Yahoo news.

If post is longer than a week I would revert back to showing date.

Why? You could U_TimeOffset do calculate the it for the users time zone.

The date formatting is done by the function html::convert_time() in ubbt.inc.php. If you wanted all displayed dates to be affected, that should be the only place that would need to be changed.
