whee! who's online!!
Posted By: RANCH4x4 Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 4:25 AM
OMG, that is awesome looking!!! I can't wait till I get my copy of 6.2!
Posted By: Brett Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 4:27 AM
VERY nice!

So it's compatible with the php accel now? Sweet! I can't wait!

Didn't expect "ubb=pntf"....
Posted By: Charles Capps Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 4:29 AM
Yeah, it works fine with the Accelerator.

The whole thing is cached. Right now, the details page (ubb=pntf) goes through the Perl bits, but only because I didn't want to get it working with the Accelerator first. Eventually, it will be. Probably the next beta.

hang on now. Before everyone goes hitting the Member Area with f5 bombs all night.... it isn't really "here" yet.

It's "there", then tonight it goes to the beta testers for a bit.

Then we put it away for a week or two and do polls.

6.2 will not be a final release until mid January though those of you that cannnot wait will be able to get a beta version sometime in mid to late December.

raiyan, "pntf" has been Charles', Ted's, and my code name for the project. "pntf" == Please Name This Feature.

And someday maybe we will.

Great Leaping Statistics, Batman! That's freaking sweeeeeet!!!!!

I too was wondering what 'pntf' meant. Will it change by the final release? Are you gonna have like a contest to name it or something?

that's good to hear

one question not relating to who's online.
-Will searching take more or less server load in 6.2? or was it not even touched?
Posted By: CopyCat Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 4:51 AM
nice job, congratulations smile congrats.

That is nice! I love the stats! GREAT JOB!
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 5:41 AM
I was wondering where all the visitors came from over there
Posted By: Charles Capps Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 5:58 AM
It will remain PNTF inside all the scripts and data files - it's all hard coded.

The feature itself is renamable via Wordlets, so it can be Who's Online (or anything else) if you really want it to be.

We don't have the time in this release to address the search - I'm really hoping we can get it fixed in 6.3. (We're already slightly behind our targeted schedule...)

Our goal for polls is to make them not just amusing, but useful.
Posted By: LK Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 7:56 PM
Very cool, but I don't like that it's in the last 60 minutes, that it's updated once per 5 minutes and that it doesn't italicize admins/mods.

It's no wonder I wasn't able to guess the path when Charles mentioned it was there but not there. I must have tried 20 different spellings of "recent visitors" alone.
Posted By: Charles Capps Re: It's here. :) - 11/30/2001 9:11 PM
LK: 'Tis an admin definable time period.

The admins/mods are not bold/ital on purpose - we don't want to have to open profiles.

Small peeve: Convert things like "600 minutes" to actual hours and minutes.

All in all though, it looks really nice.

If you're in a position that you need to bump the thing over an hour to get decent stats, you shouldn't have it on in the first place.

Love the ability to choose layout for it, thanks Charles smile

BTW, the bug still exists in beta 5.0
Posted By: LK Re: It's here. :) - 12/08/2001 12:24 PM
Also it seems like you're starting to get it validated, and just don't forget that if validator.w3.org ignores JavaScript, it doesn't mean the HTML there shouldn't be validated.

: Shouldn't "&" be ";"?

[edit: also WOL and moderators list isn't validated]

Allen that new little wavey Santa is so cute. Can I steal him for my board please?
Posted By: AllenAyres Re: It's here. :) - 12/09/2001 4:28 AM
Sure... I am sure I stole him from someone else who "borrowed" him from someone else

Hello Mr. Capps

how is testing coming along and do you have a rough estimate for release?

it is looking NICE! Keep up the great work.
Posted By: Charles Capps Re: It's here. :) - 12/18/2001 12:00 AM
We don't have a release date set, and won't until about a week before it's ready.

We have a target for public beta, but it's slipped a few times.

Polling is harder than it looks.
Posted By: CopyCat Re: It's here. :) - 12/18/2001 12:23 AM
can i make a suggestion about polls?
Posted By: Charles Capps Re: It's here. :) - 12/18/2001 12:28 AM
Sure.
Posted By: CopyCat Re: It's here. :) - 12/18/2001 12:55 AM
polls for the whole forum also, not only in threads
Posted By: Charles Capps Re: It's here. :) - 12/18/2001 1:12 AM
No can do - polls have to be tied to a thread right now.. but they CAN be tied elsewhere. I'll put it on the "look to see if this is possible" list.
Posted By: CopyCat Re: It's here. :) - 12/18/2001 1:20 AM
cool thanks

ill try to mod it if it cant make to the release

Does that mean you may call the poll on any page of your site through an SSI call? That would be extremely useful and cool!!!

Not directly - the hooks will be in the code for people to write hacks to do so though. smile It's used frequently in our WOL and polling to expire old cache pages.

Print Topic doesn't have DOCTYPE tag, but even if it would've had it:
