Try an experiment for me and you'll see what I mean. Set your display preferences on this forum to use 100 columns by 20 rows. Then set your display resolution to 800x600 and make a post. You'll see how it really streches out the window. What I'm proposing is that rather than specifying an absolute such as 100 columns, you specify a percentage of the overall table which then makes it relative to the resolution your display is set at.
This is just good website design. When creating tables for my sites, I never specify an absolute unless I need to for a particular design element to work. I use percentages which then allow the window to be scaled appropriately.
