There are several of the extensive hacks I want to do, but I'm curious, should I wait until 6.1 comes out, because I don't want to do them more than I have to.

I personally am waiting for a new "Allhack" to make things easier for the smaller hacks. For the larger ones, that takes rehacking manually, plain and simple due to complexity. In a perfect world everything would be "Allhack" compatible handling changes as diffs, common to the Unix world.

In a somewhat less than perfect world, most hacks would be in Allhack or some such utility for UBB6, and you'd run that first on native UBB6 files, then do your large scale manual hacking.

Just thinking out loud here.
