Does anyone have a UBB 6.1 HAcking guide? OR could you make one? I am currently trying to update an Avatar hack for UBB 6.1, and it would be useful if I didn't have to spend time looking through code.

What do you mean? There isn't a guide on how to hack the ubb. There's a guide how to get started. But the actual code part. You would have to learn that more on your on, or by books. There isn't a guide like that. [At

Hmmm...want to hack without looking at the code.

Where is the fun in that.

Tinkering around is the best way to learn how it works, as well as gaining an understanding of the language.

Besides, Mods, Hacks and Workarounds represent individual tastes. Although there are many popular hacks, every Admin decides what features he/she wants. I recommend that you decide what hacks you want to add, read the documentation very carefully and have fun with it. Don't forget to make backups too!

If you want to create your own mods, I'm afraid you're going to have to play with the code...oh yeah, knowing some perl helps too wink

Good luck!

Yea, I learned how to do alot of stuff, making mods and such, by just tinkering with the code. It is the funnest part. Trying to figure out what does what and where it is called and stuff is fun to me.

Good point tack!

I also agree that I have learned much about PERL from adding MOD or HACKS by hand...

However with the constant updates to the UBB program (not a complaint!) it became tiresome...

There are two programs out there that allow for automatic installation of MODs....

I use one (and I still take time to look at code to see how they are doing what they are doing) and it is called MultiHack and is by Troy Jones

Many people are using this program now - it makes redoing all the MODs much easier when a new update comes out. There is also a database on this site that has a lot of the MODs in MHK format so you only have to download the MHK file, import it into the MHK program, and then click the button to have all the modifications added to the UBB files and then upload the changed files.

The MultiHack home page is http://www.multihack.com/

From there you can download the program.

And the address for the actual data files for the various hacks is at this page:

https://ubbdev.com/mhk/

(I have several of the BETA MODs for the BETA version of v6.1.0 set up and will be sending those to Troy for listing if he so desires to do so. I will not send them to anyone personally since that is a violation of the UBB license - I think.)

I installed the avatar hack on my test 6.1 board and it seems to be working properly. It was fairly simple using the directions from 6.0.

Some hacks will work on 6.1. It depends on what code was changed and if that hack uses code that was changed for 6.1. smile
