I need a very simple hack that just allows me to call the last 5 posts on my forum from my web site with SSI. I used to use this simple hack for the old UBB but of course it does not work... can anyone design something simple like this?? Is it possible to do this with this current hack?? Thanks! confused

My suggestion is the option to pull the headlines or whatever from the last X topics posted to, no matter what their date may be - like, not dependant on whether it was in the last 24 hours or not.

Well I already suggested some things to be carried over from the original, but they kind of got lost in the JM Lovin =):

The Following are all related to SSI Output only:

1) Ability to filter the headlines list by forum and or Category (choice).

2) Ability to use the above system and then call more than one set of unique headlines. In other words if you had two forums or two categorys with multiple forums then you could also have two SSI calls - one for each unique forum topics or category etc.

That's what I want, you could do it with the original after some tweaks but this one doesn't use a 'By File SSI Call', it calls from the main script and that's not easy to get around.

Uhm is there away I can use both SSI and the active topics? at the same time? I want to like 5 of the headline in my front page, and I still want the whole list of Daily topic in the forum. Can you do that?

Seems to be a new bug as it's not mentioned in the docs, but if you enable headlines then your forum removes the Active Topics Stuff from public display.

So you have 'No Active Topics' aside from SSI output, you'll probably need to have an SSI only file - which would solve a lot of problems for private customisation as well =).
http://www.ispreview.co.uk/cgi-bin/ubb2/ultimatebb.cgi (test forum)

Also the text size formatting in the CP doesn't effect the output.

I assume USL = URL =)? http://www.ispreview.co.uk/cgi-bin/ubb2/ultimatebb.cgi

^This is a test forum just to trial hacks and new versions for when I implement it properly.

You really must make the SSI output and forum output work together - otherwise don't erase the old active topics system in your installation - people want both you know.

Yes indeed, quite nice!!!
Couple questions though,
Have you been able to get the horizontal line to work? And number of replies, will it start the count with replies since the hack, or should it be in there?

In the control panel, it mentions HRline color and size, so I assume it is a line between the topics that are called via ssi.

It also mentions active_topics_replies, which I assume would show the number of replies for the topic? Is this somethat should also be shown with the ssi call?

Can this hack be used like the old Activetopics.cgi via SSI

i.e. Can I call it via SSI on my home page and show, say, the 6 most recent topics, even if they aren't all from the current day.

I ask because my board sometimes has a slow day and i might only get a post or 2 so I'd like to be able to specify the last 6 topics be shown! If you get what i mean laugh

Jigga-Master,

Your hack works great, I use it for headlines with just the topic. There is a small typo in your documentation file though. You say to find code in "public_search.cgi" but it's public_search.pl.

See ya and THANKS a lot.

PS- Are you fixing any bugs? What will be in the new version??
