Two problems/questions on this hack.

First--does it work in both 6.0 and 6.01 or only 6.01?

I tried adding it to 6.0 and almost got it to work (see next comment below) but after trying to rate a topic, received a cgi error code about being unable to open line 63 in ubb_rate_topic.cgi. I can post the exact error message here later if you want to see it.

Second--is there an error in the readme.txt file?

You say the following in that file...

########################################
public_forum_page.pl (Templates)
--------------------------------
########################################
Find
########################################

$vars_wordlets{total_replies_header}

tag at the beginning of that last text? My formatting didn't work properly until I added another tag.

Philipp

Can you make rate this topic a choice for the topic starter? On my board some people opt not to be rated. Please me know if you have will include in your next release.

Great Hack!!!

One question, I also have the gradient hack installed, and really hate to fool with this all since it's working, do you know where in your code, I need to add the gradient call, so I have a consistant bar?

Phillip,

Yes I do have the threads_rating folder in my members directory and proper permissions.

Any other thoughts?

I noticed that the rating ends up equalling the last rating. I tested it out on my board and another board and saw same results. I looked at the files in the thread_ratings folder and they are still registering 1 vote even thought the topic has received multiple ratings. Anyone else getting the same issue?

Stang5_0, the gradient coding would go in this section

Stang5_0 - my apologies for adding a rating on your topic on your board but you have the same problem as me. I rated a topic that was previously rated a 5. I rated it a 1. It should average the 2 ratings and come up with 2.5 (rounds to 2) but the new rating is a 1.

Stang5_0

Take a look in the thread_ratings folder and see if it shows two votes. If we both have the same problem I would say it is a bug in the code. Thanks.

I still am having problems. Here is what the rating file looks like now after two votes:

$votes = 1;
$ratings = 5;$votes = 1;
$ratings = 1;

Why not delete the original file and re-write it everytime someone votes?

Great that fixed it. I did notice another small issue. After you vote it does not display where you are being returned to.

Cool hack.

Just a idea, maybe make stars be able to be "halfs" as well as whole stars

so there can be 4 1/2 stars, etc. You get the idea I think.

I figured out my problem. Another stupid user problem (I'm the user). I had created a directory folder with an extra 's' in it. Once I renamed the threads folder properly it worked like a charm.

I probably need to check out version D to see what else has just been added.

Phillip,

Just one more request. Instead of saying were are taking you back to "Forum 3" can you make it display the full title? Thanks and great hack.

I was able to get the full forum name by adding another hidden value in the rating form. I also clean up formatting and spacing using the following slight modification to your code. Here is the main part of public_topic_page.pl file related to this hack:

$vars_wordlets_rate{rate_topic}

$vars_wordlets{hop_to}

By moving the hidden values, the space between the drop-down box and the go button is smaller and consitent with the hop-to box. Thanks again for a great hack.

How about rating Forums as well, some people have forums for games and such and so you could rate the game quality as well etc. Like a reader reviews system, but more flexible.

Phillip can you make this mod so that if the topic has NOT been rated it shows up as so?
like ive changed this to text instead of images and ive noticed that if you vote for a topic every other topic under it on the same pageshows this topic has not been rated but then if one of those gets replied to it removes the "this topic has not been rated" heres an example....... http://www.411hype.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=4
