Lord Dexter, not really, that's how it is XHTMLed

I might make it look prettier by using document.write('.....'), but also the other form works.

Tim: Rehack ubb_profile.cgi, and make sure you chose to show it.

And I got the problem fixed, forgot to upload ubb_profile.cgi hacked. Great hack LK.

Did we stop using the AltColumnColor1 type settings? I didn't see them suggested in the cp like it used to be...

&HeaderRow("Color Settings: You can use hex numbers (like #000000), color names (like red) or colors from Style Templates (like AltColumnColor1). Yes, it can be used without birthdays, just unhack ubb_profile.cgi and ubb_registration.cgi smile

ZIP/MHK files updated.

Updated features:
1. Uses UndoCodeTag.
2. You can choose to use UBB Code but not [img].
3. public_new_calendar_event.pl doesn't close td/tr before the first submit thing... It looked ugly.
4. public_new_calendar_event.pl uses another Wordlet for the button, 'Add Calendar Event' instead of 'Add a calendar event' or something like that.

Updated files: ubb_lib_calendar.cgi, vars_wordlets_calendar.cgi, public_new_calendar_event.pl, cp_vars_calendar.pl.

Nice hack LK!

I'd love to use this on my forum, but I need the ability to set events weekly. Like every Friday for example. That would make it so much easier for my users. Is this a possibility? COuld it be in a future release?

Great hack jordo - installed it last night and already getting a lot of use out of it!

I do have a slight problem with getting the SSI part to work in order to show calendar events on my homepage. I modified my homepage to have a .shtml extension, but it still won;t work.

When I use:

nothing shows up at all.

And when I use:

what shows up is the entire message board main page template with menu and everything, and it displayes the "This message board is closed" message.

Any ideas?

I added the calendar mod to my 6.21 (at http://www.twinstuff.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi) and it works well except for one strange quirk.

The last two new registrants to my board who elected to display their birthdays both had the same day show up as their birthday, November 30, when they actually entered their real birthdays as June 5 and October 23.

In each case it doesn't understand the year they were born. You can see it in the calendar entry at this page http://www.twinstuff.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=calendar&date=2452609

I still haven't been able to get the SSI to work yet, but now I have another question.

I would like to put the Calendar link and list of today's events that normally shows at the bottom of the page up above the fold, and more specifically, in between the ">> Hello, [log out]" table cell and the "Forum" table cell. The reason I want to do this is to make it more visible. I also want to increase the font size of the text within this widget.

I was successfully able to make other modifications to calendar, but am having difficulty 1) finding the display code for that widget and 2) finguring out where to put it to meet my above goal.

Anyone have any suggestions?

(thanks in advance)

LK, for next version could you modify the wordlet "'s birthday" with the new wordlets format used by IP like "%%username%%'s birthday" it would make it really easier to translate in other langages smile

thanks

A small suggestion. What we did is having changed the wordlets for "xxx is xx years old today. Send him (her) greetings in our Special Birthday Forum". So people can send them greetings! You can even link it to a greeting card system. Works quiet well

nice hack smile
I got two questions tho:
I tried to get the "events" to show between the login/calender like Geronimo said. I edited those lines you said but its just as before no change at all.
The second is that when I enter my forum I see the calender link but not when Im in the "overview forums" screen. Would be nice with a hint on where Ive forgot to add a code smile
Thanks

hehe no I didnt, forgot I had to do that smile too long since I was modifying a forum now smile
Thanks for the answer

one more thing. Im starting to wonder if it wasnt this Geronimo meant since it still aint like this. Or its just me misunderstanding. Anyhow is it possible to get the "event box" that show on the bottom of the page when you click on calender to show above the calender instead of bottom ?

Is it possible to edit the forum_summary template that the calendar part wil look like authority list, statistics etc. on the mainbar. I tried something by myself:

Find:

sub PageBottom {
my $Bottom = qq~

Add below:

face="$vars_style{FontFace}">
$vars_wordlets_calendar{calendar}

align="center">

$calendar

And it looks good then, but where the actually calendar events should appear you get a tabel whit in that the calendar events. Please help smile
'), change it to:

after "sub PageBottom {
my $Bottom = qq~", add "$calendar".

I'm working on installing this hack into my test board as a dry run for my actual board; I am using the Multihack program.

When I do the analysis, this error appears:

quote:
recognizes cp.cgi?ubb=stuff
What exactly does this mean, and how do I go about fixing it? laugh

I have installed the Modification Wordlets' hack and the UBBNEWS hack. Otherwise, I haven't touched the original cp.cgi

My test board is at

http://adwoff.com/ubb-test/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

Thanks!

I think LK means to hack everything BUT cp.cgi with MultiHack, and then hack cp.cgi with the manual instructions. So you'll have to download the .zip file, too.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, LK.

LK, I've been asked by user if it could be possible te receive a mail with today's or tomorrow's birthdays.

What do you think of it ? Maybe users could register in profile if they want a mail or not.

It's possible, but:

a. It will be used when someone views forum summary after cache is cleared (like someone posts or someone registers).
b. I need a nice greeting card in both ASCII and HTML.
c. I won't edit the Profile page. I'll use the option to allow mass mails.

I understand B and C (I can make you the nice greeting cards) tho I am not sure what you mean by a. When the e-mail will actually get sent ?

Also by default the calendar uses american date format (mm dd, yy) could you make it use the format specified in the cp ?

1) nevermind, but can I get the greeting card? tipsy

2) Does it matter? It's not 03-12-02, it's March 12, 2002. So you'll just make it 'mars 12, 2002'.

Is there a way I can modify the calling of ubb_calendar_ssi.cgi to display events for the week instead of just the current day? It would be helpful for my visitors to see what's coming up in the near future right on the main page, and there are usually only one or two events listed for any given day anyway. If there's some way to easily modify that, I'd be very greatful. Thanks.

Enjoying the hack, LK, thanks! Any plans to implement a way to edit existing events other than hacking the vars_calendar_events.cgi file? Or perhaps I am being dense and am refusing to see the feature? smile

LK, thanks for replying. I actually do like that little calendar option, but the text-based messages would be much better suited for my website. That way they can read the upcoming events at a glance without even having to click anything. I don't know how much reconfiguring it would take, so that's why I'm asking...but if it's not that difficult, it would really add some functionality to the hack in my case. Thanks again.

It shouldn't revert to HTML, I guess you modified UBBCodes...

There is no such thing as 'calendar' cache, but the calendar shows events from its file, it doesn't access all member files, so you'll have to remove it in the event review section.

LK...thanks so much for the calendar hack! It was really needed on my site!

Have a question though...(someone as smart as you can probably figure this out)

I had Newsfader installed prior to installing the Calendar and have now lost access to News Fader in the control panel. (I think they occupy the same line in the code) I have a feeling...I need to change a simple number somewhere! Help?

Well...beat me with a stick...I think I found the mistake!

replaced the line operating the newsfader instead of just adding the one for the calendar! *bonks herself in the head*

I upgraded to 6.2.1.1 today, and reinstalled the calendar hack, and I'm not getting that HTML error anymore - so I must have messed something up in the past. Glad to know it's nothing to do with the hack. smile Something that I wasn't aware of is that the birthdays don't appear on the calendar until each user edits their profile (or new ones sign up). That's why it was showing some, but not others...if you install the calendar after you already have members registered, every single one of them have to click "update profile" in order to be seen on the calendar. Which is cool, but I didn't see that notated anywhere so it got a bit confusing. You might want to add that to the FAQ or something.

Can you explain how the calendar derives the date from using the number field located at the beginning of each line in vars_calendar_events.cgi? (ie, ||2452328||). I would like to add more years to my dropdown box (you explained to me how to do this before), but I'm just a little nervous that I'll break the relationships of the existing events to the correct days if I do. I just don't really understand how it works, so I'm being very cautious. smile

I'd also still really like that "show weekly events" thing in text format if that's possible. Thanks for your time!

One question, what are the correct CHMOD settings for vars_calendar_events.cgi
I keep on getting an error from the system access denied.

I've tried 755 and 777 but continue to get the access denied in control panel when updating the calendar wordlet list:

Can't open '/home/deltagru/public_html/lacueva/cgi-bin/vars_wordlets_calendar.cgi'.

"Permission was denied - please ask the administrator to check the permissions on that file/directory!

The exact error returned by the operating system is:
Permission denied"

First of all, great Hack LK! wink

I installed it on my 6.2.1.1 Board without any problems, but it seems that it doesn't let me change a few wordlets. My Board is in german, and even if I changed birthday to Geburtstag it doesn't show up in german. Same with .. years ago and review today's events.

Any suggestions what's wrong here?

Sir, it's julian date - since 1752 or something like that. Don't be afraid to add another year.

Domain: odd, rehack cp_wordlets maybe?

Well, I don't think there is anything wrong with the wordlets file, because all the other wordlets are working fine and are changeable.

Hi guys, - using 6.2.1

Seem to have a little problem here. The multihack analyzes ok except for: error: requires vars_wordlets_calender.cgi in cp.cgi.

Ok so by reading above I attempted to manually hack cp.cgi as per the text file but -

######after:

foreach my $file (qw(display misc

######add:

wordlets_calendar

can't be done because foreach my $file (qw(display misc doesn't appear anywhere in my cp.cgi.

Any advice - greatly appreciated, this is the last mod I needed to install.

It's 1:15am in Sydney and I'm beat - G'night

I'm on it, but I am not doing a birthday card more of a birthday reminder for people who asked it. (the best way would be to be able to choose which people's birthday you would like a reminder because on ubbdev I wouldn't want 12000 emails smile )

Thanks LK,

No luck with that string but I did find:

foreach my $file (qw(wordlets_mods display misc

and added calender_wordlets along side "wordlets_mods " after which I applied the remainder of the hack to cp.cgi.

Sadly multihack came back with the same analysis:

error: requires vars_wordlets_calender.cgi in cp.cgi.

I'm pretty new to this, is there a way that someone could take a look at my files and help figure out how to apply the hack?

Again any help - greatly appreciated.

wordlets_calendar, not calendar_wordlets tipsy

After you add that, you can use MultiHack except that file.

Ok looks like the final hurdle - everything seems fine, calendar's up - looks great - but no birthdays being picked up automatically.

what I've done:

1. manually updated every profile through cp
2. cleared cache (x 100)

No joy - but, when I logged into "my profile" and updated (just me) from there - my birthday appeared on the calendar.

thanks

Is it likely that I have to:

a. ask every member to do the same or,
b. log into every "my profile" (pw hack installed) and update one at a time from there, or am I missing something else?

Hey LK I just installed the hack and it works great, I love it. The only thing I can't get working is the mini calendar that you can put on your site. I've got the text line working no problem but for some reason I can't get the calendar to show. I'll I get is this error message:
[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Sorry LK - re-did the cp_users.cgi, cleared cache but still nothing??

I'm having fun getting this and UBBnews up and running - aaahhhh the fun of it all laugh

Here\'s my board , as you can see it all looks ok but no update option seems available through cp (tried updating a few individual's thru members/view-edit member records - same result)

We've only been going 10 days but of the 45 members, 25 have nominated "show birthdays" (for what it's worth) but non are getting picked up.

What have I missed?

Thanks for your patience

When you hacked cp_users.cgi, were there 2 steps or only 1? If only 1, download the ZIP again.

Melder, I had that problem too (of HTML breaking). When I installed a fresh 6.2.1.1, and rehacked with the current calendar hack, the problem went away. Seems like something's really fragile there, but it does show that it's not a problem with the hack. Not really sure.

I've been looking over these posts and I'm curious...do the birthdays automatically update themselves now? I had to do the same thing as guvner - manually edit EVERY member profile myself to get the birthdays to appear on the calendar. (And I have over 280 members). frown I did make a post about this not too long ago - is there something in the control panel now that puts the birthdays on the calendar automatically? That wasn't made clear to me.

years ago.

That's fine, as I have some people that apparently don't want people to know how old they are (ladies in their 40's and above).
When they go back to edit their profile in any way, the birthmonth and day field are not filled in. If they neglect to re-enter their info, they are disappearing from the calendar.

Perhaps this is something to fix or add, that the year is optional as it is now, but doesn't disappear, and doesn't show "years ago" in the calendar detail if it is not entered?

----------------------
And I may have found pamela's problem with the pulldown menu not taking you to the proper month/year.

It seems that in public_calendar_display.pl, the form it creates is missing the ending form tag

Code
[/code]...should have a
[code]
at the end of it.

2) it should work fine if UBBCode is on, it works in my board.

3) if you mean ssi, there was a bug, please re-upload it from a new zip. smile

2) it should work fine if UBBCode is on, it works in my board. +++ if u edit a event include a url (like mebers birthday link to profile) u become ubb code ? not at my board.

3) if you mean ssi, +++ NO i mean if u make a weekly event and go back to calender i can only see the old events, but if i click the "weekly event day" i see the weekly events in calendar too.

OK, I just read every message in this thread to make sure I was not asking a question that was already covered.

I am also having the problem with birthdays not showing up. I installed the hack manually on my test ubb. I only have 2 users on it right now. I updated each profile several times and cleared the cache several times. No change.

NOTE: I am not getting any errors at all and the calendars works great other than this issue. I also tried using the multihack (again no errors), re-download the hacks (both the zip and the multihack) from your site (last update on April 10th). I rehacked it several times manually to make sure I got it right. Same problem.

NEW QUESTION: Is there a way to allow the person who added the event to change or remove it? Could this be a control panel toggle?

ONE MORE THING: When the event is added through a forum and then somebody (another moderator) moves or deletes the topic, the link in the calendar breaks. Is there a way to have that deletion or moving of the thread modify or remove the calendar event?

BTW LK, Awesome Hack. Thank you for putting in the time.

OK, I have figured out the No Birthdays on the Calendar thingie. Duh! It was me. I did not check the boxes in the profiles. Sheesh!! Check brain at the door.

Anyway, It is an awesome hack and yes, I have ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and AIM all running. Why?

Can you please answer my other 2 questions tho?

hi L"ittle" K smile

one part works fine - but wink

show the weekly and yearly event one year before and 1,2 years later. here u can only see the event in calender form. in the dayline "under the calendar" u can only see the event from he starting day. the weekly plus events one week befor and / or one week later u can´t see at the "dayline" ...

and:

u can edit the event every day (also one year later.) but not in year 2004 ?!?!?!

but here u can see the dayline for every week event.

http://www.loveground.com/cgi-bin/bd/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=calendar

LK,

I know this is a finished hack but I came here looking for the show a weeks events solution and saw a few other people did as well. I wanted to share how I did what was aksed. My code is sloppy as ever but I just wanted to tinker with it and see if it works.

It allows the ubb_forum_summary.cgi to show two rows of info inside the same table row: Today's events and any within say a week. Its working at test.sosguild.com. If you want the code I did (which isnt much) I'll be glad to shoot it to you for consideration of an add on to a great hack.

ZIP file updated, now in SSI you can use ?ubb=calendar_ssi;month=X, and it will show current month + X's calendar. For example, ;month=1 currently shows May, while ;month=-2 currently shows February.

calendar_ssi - find:
# display the day

and plz LK delete the font color in this line.

... and one little ssi bug wink

if u shoh the daily events in ssi u become "no events" if u have the spezial "weekly and yearly events" and ! not the day u have start this event.

ex: insert a event 04/22/02 for weekly and yearly. open calendar_ssi.cgi directly und u can see this event - now edit the event and make a new date: 04/15/02 - so u have today the weekly event too - but calendar_ssi dont show this ...

I had a question.. I'm using LK's Calendar hack on http://forums.orderofronin.com and I wanted to alter his Calendar Today's events secetion on the bottom to appear as a docked category with a little Icon like I did with the PM, and Recent Visitors... here's the problem though.. in public_forum_symmary.pl which is where I edited the other lines, I only see $calendar for that calendar piece. Where do i find the actual code that puts it out to the page???

Hi,

is it possible to edit the hack that I can do this for ALL forums?:

Forum(s) to allow calendar event posting in:
You may select a forum in which posters will be given the choice to add a calendar event when they post a new topic (not a required fields, separate with spaces).

thanks

Cool code... I had been looking for how to do this for quite some time. It takes a long time to cut and paste all the appropriate code into the existing code....but was worth it...

I would suggest that the docs for the changes be re-written (sorted) to list all the CGI's in alphabetical order first for the code changes and then all the noncgi directory files...again in alphabetical order.... for the templates etc... the current method was tedious due to having to go back and forth between the cgi and noncgi directory. I was most of the way through when I realized how it was going back and forth so often...

Also as a "new feature" in it... I'd like to see a way to add "Holidays" to it that do not show as an event...I assume that would be Calendar 3.0 wink

Anyway.. finally... I know there's been some talk about the cgi exec thing not working for some as well as the include not working. I suspect this is due to people running on IIS w/ ASP pages instead of html/shtml/etc pages. If this is the case I offer the following suggestion:

Create a file called smallcal.asp (or other name and different cgi for the plain text output as indicated in instructions) and insert a

in your asp page where you'd like to insert it...

In smallcal.asp:
[code][/code]I am unsure of how this works for older IIS but I am using it on a Win2k Server w/ IIS 5.0 and it works fine. This obviously shows the small calendar but could be used for the plain text output as well. Technically this will pipe anything cgi into a ASP page that displays by itself... the <%=shtml%> is the same as a "Response.write shtml" fyi.. if you wish to do processing to the shtml string you would do it prior to the <%=shtml%> for example searching and replacing a particular color value in case you wish for say the event days to be a different color then what is standard in your forums already for colors but to leave the full sized calendar the same...etc...

you can see it running on my website at

http://www.littlefishtank.com

Unfortunately my site has alot of live generated content from various places so speed is not so great all the time... but the process normally is rather quick so do not be concerned that it will significantly adding this one thing to your website...

LK - nice hack. This is my first time installing it. I have noticed a problem, and the server here seems to be running slow today, so I haven't read through ALL of the posts on this thread.

First, I noticed that existing users' birthdays are not added into the calendar until they edit, or submit, their profiles after the hack.

Second, because of the first problem, I was asking some users for their birthdays and entering them myself through the CP. Sounded like it would work, but everyone I did added an entry "admin's birthday" to the calendar on the appropriate day. When I went into their profiles through the board, logging in as them, and re-submitted their profile it added the correct name in the calendar, but kept the "admin's birthday" as well.

Is this a known problem? What's the fix?

It seems to not have fixed the bug. Should the re-hack have removed the duplicate birthday's?

I tested it by going to the cp again, opening a user's profile, and submitting changes. After visiting the calendar month of the birthday I found that the old "admin's birthday" was still there and there is a new one now called "'s birthday." Did I do something wrong?

p.s. Thanks for the earlier clarification LK.

It works great now. I have a new, more challenging, question for you now.

Is it possible to connect this calendar to an Exchange Server calendar?
