My first mod, ported to 6.1 Here we go: Name: Chat Mod Description: Lets you chat with jIRC. It has full CP support, it's 100% wordletized, it automatically gets the nick of the user/GuestXXXXX (5 random digits) if it's a guest, replaces smilies with real smilies, notifies Who's Online, shows how many people are currently chatting (by Who's Online) and even invites people to the chatroom (thanks to Olson). Demo: http://www.lkubb.dns2go.com Link: ZIP File or MultiHack File Requirements: UBBâ„¢ 6.1 Beta Release 2.0 , Mod Wordlets 1.5 , jPilot License (unless you want to see an "unregistered" line after every line) Special thanks to: Ryan Olson for Invitation Script, qasic and Borg for Who's Online, dj_rava for the Admin Command Buttons idea and Troy for MultiHack and supporting me all the way . I'm very happy to see this. I hope that 6.1.3 is out by this weekend so that I can try it all. My whole desire for the chat is to log it, so I will be trying to read thru the jIRC doc about logging (I did read there that it can be done). I can't think of a better reason to use it. So many of the chats don't let you log. I want to save transcripts for others to look at that were not able to attend.

Files updated with a new ubb_chat.cgi, made some things tidier. Debbie, are you sure it's possible? If so, can you tell me how?

Well, if I knew for sure how, I'd have it done (also, if I had the time). At chat one day, you guys told me to go read up on it. I looked at the mIRC doc, and they do it. You can use "Logging" as the word to look up in the index. I don't know about jIRC vs. mIRC. I have hosted my Caribbean Chat on AOL for 5 years and want to move it to my own site but want to log chats before I do it. Digichat does it, but that is megabucks. I think OnChat does it. I would like to do it here and plan to try it out.

Evidentally not, then--http://www.jpilot.com/java/irc/ubb/contents/Forum3/HTML/000321.html
then this is not the way to go for me unless mIRC can be hacked in.

Yeah, I already have it What you can do is that you'll use mIRC and choose to log anything, and other people will use jIRC, but then you'll have to be there all day long. If you have access to your server's box, you can put an Eggdrop ( www.egghelp.org ) and choose to log anything.

My webhosting outfit (featureprice.com) supports tcl,but I can't telnet or anything. I can only FTP. I don't think I can do this eggdrop thing. Don't you need to do the gunzip right on the server?
If others use jIRC, and I use mIRC, that means I have to buy both, but I like mIRC better (mainly because I have already figured it out)

Debbie: 1. I have no idea But you can save it on the local (the one with eggdrop) computer. 2. You don't have to buy mIRC, you're (legally) allowed to use an unregistered copy. [ August 17, 2001: Message edited by: LK ]

ZIP/MHP Files updated so it will work better with Beta 1.4. If you wish, rehack ultimatebb.cgi and upload the new ubb_chat.cgi.

LK, I'm having a couple problems. Let me know what you can do... First) In the CP, I click on Chat Settings, and I get this error: quote:</font><hr> An error has occured:
/home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/vars_chat.cgi: syntax error at /home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/vars_chat.cgi line 96, near "~ =>" (called by /home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/cp_lib.cgi, 427)
<hr></blockquote>
Next, when I goto enter the chat room from the catagory page, I get this error: I've tried to re-hack it twice, with no luck. The error is persistant.
Here are the lines in which the errors are referring to...:
First Error: <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, Arial">code: Second Error: My opinions are that the first line is written wrong, maybe not. I'm not that great at writing CGI, so I'm probably wrong, but it does look wrong to me at least. For the second error, it's obvioulsy calling a template file that it's saying isn't there. I uploaded all the files to the right places, .pl files to templates, and .cgi files to cgi-bin, but no luck. I'll mess around with them a bit more, but if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreicated.

And you're correct Something weird happened to vars_chat.cgi. Fix: remove anything after the first "1;" in vars_chat.cgi. ZIP file will be updated after I'll be able to enter Tripod UK.

Ok, now that that last error is repaired, I came across a new one. Here's the deal: I went to my chat room, and this is what came up: quote:</font><hr> Error An error has occured:
Undefined subroutine &main::LoadStyleTemplate called at /home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/ubb_chat.cgi line 15.
Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you! <hr></blockquote>
Here is the code to which it refers...

1. Download the new ZIP and upload vars_chat.cgi.
2. It exists only in Beta 1.4.

Still have the same error I had a minute ago.
Also, it's the ubb_chat.cgi file that's messing up (or not) now.
I uploaded the new vars file, no luck
I'm using 6.1 beta 1.2 does that matter?

Yes.
In ubb_chat.cgi, find:
&LoadStyleTemplate($vars_chat{Template});
replace with:
do "$vars_config{NonCGIPath}/styles/vars_style_$vars_chat{Template}";

Illegal division by zero at /home/web/legendz/public_html/cgi-bin/ubb_chat.cgi line 36.
Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you! <hr></blockquote>

Yup, the line I posted. We're getting somewhere now! I now have chat, but it's not reading my style template. It comes up all blank looking at stuff. Hard to explain, go here instead!

Yep... I just installed it on a fresh PB 1.4 board (with Who's Online, ofcourse), and it works fine. In Style Templates, what's the Table Width? BTW, Do you have AIM/ICQ?

I installed the mod. I pretty much want it to be as generic for logged on users as possible, as my users are NOT too savvy. When I went in the room, I still saw that there was nobody in the chat room, so I changed the "no one in the chat room" message to "join the chat room". Also, I said "no" to having an about button, but I get one anyway. I'd like to make that "Disconnect" button big enough to see the word but don't know how. I sent JPilot his $49.99 begrudgingly since there is no log (going to try the mIRC route, but I did that the other day, and the autolog didn't work for me, just the manual log did). I have not got a registration number. I know regisoft says it may take up to a week. That is unacceptable. I would like to get it today. I think $49.99 is overpriced, so the guy could at least have a way to get you your number right away.
Thanks, LK for a great mod. I had hoped for 6.2 or at least 6.1 out of beta to do this but gave up waiting. The only other mod I don't have on that I really want is the hit mod, but I will wait for that.
I hope you can shed some light on my comments in the first paragraph.

Debbie, - If I'll put it in the ZIP, everybody will know 'join the chatroom' is when nobody is there, so everybody will change it anyway
- It works only after you type in the key.
- In FieldNameConnect (wordlets), you can use " Connect " (and make sure to type it again next time you'll edit the wordlets).

I believe I have my 3 channels are registered now and I am an op on them, LK and can log each thru mIRC. Very unfriendly, but it does work, and I think even the autologging is working now. Thanks for your time this afternoon!

Hi there, I was just curious how you think this would work with Conference room I have used JS before, but like conference room a bit better. Do you suppose it would be possible to port it in?

I must say that the jPilot guy takes his time to send the license key. How long have other people waited?
Thanks to LK, I all but there except for that part. I had wanted to have it all working by the end of the labor day weekend, but that guy has not sent the key. I did write him at the support email to find out what the delay is. I have had this problem w/ RegSoft before, so maybe they are the delay??
