Excuse my ignorance.
Is this a link to just any IRC server, or can you only gain access into the room through the link on the UBB forums?
I only want people in my chat-room who are from my site. How does it go about creating channels?
I might be wildy off the mark here, but i'm a bit confused by it!
TIA

1. It's currently irc.webchat.org, channel #LK, and you can change it from the CP.

2. in ubb_chat.cgi before the first line, put:
<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">code:

Fixed a VERY minor bug in ubb_chat.cgi about $alt_color2 in invite_form. It also changed the color when the user was invisible/a guest.

I forgot to add ' /' to one of the inputs, so I updated the ZIP..

If you don't want to download it again, just add ' /' before > in the input that it's missing.

After having installed the hack on my PB2.1 test board I've run into a problem:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi

Now when you try to enter the ubb_chat it gives you the following FYI:

You are attempting to reach a page that does not exist.

For the record I did notice that three or four of the instruction lines (couple might have been in ubb_forum.cgi) didn't tally with v6.1PB2.1 properly. However despite this it wasn't too hard to find the correct lines and sort the code, although please re-do the instructions to be accurate.

Worth noting that I don't think testing this on LKs own board is gonna work since that didn't show up the UBB Poll bug either =).

Any help?

mark, the error message is caused if you didn't hack ultimatebb.cgi correctly.

The ubb_forum(_summary).cgi parts are only if you have Who's Online installed, which is needed for this hack.

Cheers, once I knew what file to go through it was fairly easy to spot the TINY mistake (bad } position).

Although here's a few things to change in your instructions to make them more accurate.:

I installed the hack today and it is working ok except one thing. The 'There is no one in the chatroom. Click here to join it" text doesn't show. If I clear the catch it works, but the first time I refresh or reload the main page of my bulletin board the text dissapear, until I clear the catch again.... Is this a bug or it's me doing something wrong? I am not using the PHP accelerator.... confused

Thanks LK, it worked, I only added the extra text below one of the "while( {" line, somehow I missed the first occurrence.
Thanks again for this excellent hack and for your first class support.

Is there a way to add a column heading above the chat mod? Also if possible I would like to use this in conjunction with the custom category bg hack.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

In the ubb_forum_summary file I have no instance of "while( {" I do have the news fader (and a few other modifications) modification but not sure if that has any bearing on this or not.

UBB6.1 does not have that line in ubb_forum_summary.cgi . To fix your problem, in ubb_forum_summary.cgi:

Find:
=====

ThisGetsReplacedWithTheActualOnlineContentWhenReadFromTheCacheOrGenerated-->/$replace/;
print;
$_ = $handle -> readline();

Add below:
==========

$_ =~ s//$ChatHTML/g;
$_ =~ s//$invitehtml/;

Find (AGAIN):
=====

ThisGetsReplacedWithTheActualOnlineContentWhenReadFromTheCacheOrGenerated-->/$replace/;
print;
$_ = $handle -> readline();

Add below:
==========

$_ =~ s//$ChatHTML/g;
$_ =~ s//$invitehtml/;

1QuickSI: you gotta install WOL CGI version before installing Chat Mod.

CopyCat, yes, you can.

freeTV, I don't think it's gonna work after 'print;', and anyway it works also without your modification.

No, that's why I mentioned "WOL CGI". I can easily make it not require WOL (since there is no 'invisible' and it's only the number of people + time), and I'll probably do it, but it will never work with PHP. Also, the "Invite" feature will always work only with WOL.

I am probily going to have to pass on it then most likely due to the size of my system; 46,000+ registered users and 600+ forums and growing smile

excellent mod LK, if I knew how it worked I would have installed it earlier.

is there a way to change the ammount of time people keep listed just for the "chatting" in WOL? or to get the number of people using the applet using another method? this way people would not "disappear" in the chat.

congrats smile . its a shame java is so slow.

ZIP file updated, now it doesn't use WOL. Still no PHP support since I know nothing about it.

Modified files: ubb_chat.cgi, public_forum_summary.pl, ubb_forum_summary.cgi.

Question. In the instructions are this:

Quote
quote:
The last portion. I know all the *.gif's are FTP'ed in Binary. What about the jirc_mss.cab, jirc_nss.zip, jirc_pure.zip, sound_no.au, sound_ohyea.au, sound_yahoo.au, sound_yes.au??? Does it matter whether or not these are uploaded in Binary or ASCII? Do they need to be CHMOD'ed?

Even though ubb_chat.cgi - cgi-bin
vars_chat.cgi - variables
cp_vars_chat.pl - noncgi/Templates listed not CHMOD values, I still CHMOD'ed them with defaults that would normaly be used with them.

Hey Guys:

If one of you real 'smart hackers' would take a look at my url and see if you can point me in the right direction

The Nexus Chat

This is my second install attempt and my second error, but I'm closer this time. Any advice so I can try and root out this problem.

Thanks!

DrClarke, looks like the java applets were not loaded. You need to upload the files jirc_mss.cab, jirc_nss.zip, jirc_pure.zip as binary to the non-cgi directory (which is one level above the Templates directory).

You can still use the invitation feature, but it requires WOL. smile (even though it's untested)

ZIP file updated, grab the updated cp_vars_chat.pl, rehack cp_lib.cgi, enter CP - Chat Settings and set Refresh Rate.

Due to server load I do not want to run something like DigiChat which runs off the server. Does this use the client's side to connect or does it require intervention with the server as well?
