So, if I install the UBB.portal when it's out, and then a new UBB version is released. I would have to wait for a version of UBB.portal to be released for the new version, right? So, it would kinda delay immediate upgrades for the UBB.classic itself. But if I upgrade the UBB itself without waiting for a new UBB.portal release, then it kinda renders the ubb.portal useless....Is that right?

I think it will depend if the upgrade changes the code in some files that could affect the UBB.portal.

Also, there usually are beta periods in which the portal team could make the necessary changes, and have them ready in time for the final.

The portal should operate without needing a certain UBB.classic version - no hacks will need to be made to the UBB code to make the portal work.
There may be changes in the internal UBB.classic API that require a new Portal release, but it should never be too much of a problem.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.
