I am using 5.1.2b4 and I have a problem when someone is trying to Create a new Account if the "specialc" configuration setting is "off".
For example, if the person enters: "Grimmy", or "Moonshade"... he gets the message :
"You can only have alphanumeric characters in your username. Special characters are not allowed because this allows users to spoof other usernames. You may use the _ character to represent a space."
The routine that gives the above message is the following : (adduser.php)
if (!ereg("^\w+$",$Username)) { $html -> not_right("$lang[BAD_UNAME]",$Cat); }
I do not see what is the problem with the "ereg" since it's supposely searching if the whole value in $Username contains only letters, numbers or an underscore (_).
Does anyone have any idea with what could be wrong?

I haven't been able to figure this one out. I can register these ok, when special characters are turned off here. I'll keep tinkering with it, but no luck yet duplicating this problem yet.

Strange...
I found a workaround which is to use :
if (!eregi("^[A-Z0-9_]+$",$Username)) {
it seems the \w doesn't work on my host. I haven't figured why...
