POLL
A fix post Icon "poll" that only comes for the message with the poll in it (not for replies to it) and is automatically selected and not user selectable/deselectable...

STICKIE
Same as above... Stickes are often News, Welcomemessages and Introductions to the boards.

a Sticky Icon can be clearly identified, and the user does not get irritated, that the message does not move down wit the time...
A cool NEWS right now would be done like this:
a) make sticky. b) close thread.

That means: a "sticky" icon overrules the "closethread" icon... (or maybe we have a sticky-closed icon??)

I personally would prefer simply the word "Sticky: " or "Poll: " in front of the Thread-Title. Like in vB. I do not look a the incons very accurately.

Yeah, if it was possible for it to automatically add the words "PINNED:" or "POLL:" to the beggining of any of those topics that fall into that category, that would be idea. It would be even better if it would allow you to specify what you'd like for those two types of threads.
