My forums are growing ever so large(small to some of you) and some users are asking for the ability to turn off certain forums from their own view.
Example..
User GAMER1 is interested in the forums for Quake3 and Zork, but does not want to see any forums, including public ones, realting to EverQuest and WarCraft because he HATES both of those games. He should be able to hide the selected forums of his choice.

That could be interesting. Have you told them to play around with the Favorite Boards feature?

Do you have the forums categorized by game? If so, then the category seperation could be used for him, so he could bookmark like ubbthreads.php?Cat=1,2 if Category 1 was quake and 2 was zork.

We had the same problem... but I have divided things into categories and made several buttons at the top of the screen. Users can click "all forums" or click on a specific category and see only those forums. You can see it here

I do like JOSH's Idea, but the users only want to turn off just one section due to no interest at all. All the rest they like to see. So the categories thing would work only if they want to see just one set of forums from what I can tell.

After thinking about it again, I can just give him a link with all the forums to bookmark. But wouldn't the 'Index' button bring him back to all of them? NO! Just tested it at Josh's site!

Alright, did that by sending a link for that person to bookmark. Now that that is set, I have this feeling this person will no longer use the indexpal that I use.

Hi, Just get him to link to youdomain.co.uk/threadsdir/index.php?Cat=1,3,4,5 assuming that (s)he does not want category 2. That way (s)he will still use your indexpage, however until Dave releases the newer version of indexpal you will still see all the news items including cat 2 - with the next version you will not see cat 2 if it is not in the URL. I am using a modified version of indexpal, and in fact use two copies at http://www.nonleague.net/threads - the first one gives various doors to go through, and the second one as described above - notice on the second version how the news items etc., alter depending upon which route is taken. (Site is only in testing mode at the moment) The second one is called index2.php. Regards, Ian
