This hack now also includes the possibility to have an image for categories. Since I've done some changes I'll let it stay here in the beta forum for a while, but I think it works fine.

Cool Thanks I updated my site. However one must keep in mind since this hack is so simple the image sizes you create must be one size since size constraints are not used here.
No, it makes use of the images actual sizes, but of course it is easy to make it a fixed size. But it's really better to scale the image in an image program than letting the browser do it IMHO.
Yes, it's about the same effect as on your site, altough you don't have to add the image tag to all descriptions, just upload images with the correct name. It's also possible to put the image in different places, it doesn't have to be in the description.
I'm not sure that I follow you on the last question... This hack only changes the front page, so if you go to a board it will be the same as before. I do have another hack that I haven't released which will allow you to put board specific information above the board name on the postlist page.
Yes, thanks Gardner, that was basically it. I do think it would be neat if the image was carried through so when the board is opened it would appear there too. Looking forward to that next hack!
OK, I'll fix this as well soon. I'm just about to release a new big hack today, so it will have to wait until tomorrow at least. =]
It would be an easy fix just to add the image to the postlist page in the same way as it is done on the forum index. But then you would only get the image and nothing else.
What I'm using at my board is an inclusion of a file below the menu on the postlist page when viewing the newest threads. This way I can add both images as well as a long description or good links (forum specific FAQ:s etc). Would this be interesting as well?

Works good for me. Nice work seems streamlined and very easy to do. I removed the old code from the template for version 2.0 and then did 2.1. Everything works good and it shows up in postlist as well.
