Hi! There is a full moderation option, but this is useless for me. I need to able to take out of moderation individual users, whithout giving them any admin/mod permissions. The logical way would be to make an option for whole group, so it's easy to see who is under moderation and who is not. Is there such hack already, and if not - could anyone make such hack ? Telling the truth, i own already vB ( owned license ); but i waited since spring for vB3 threaded as for the birthday present, and very disappointed with the Alpha ( opended today, not code, just for viewing ), there is NO forum threaded view, only thread threaded view ( and who knows when the release comes out ) OK, now you know my story... Look... $229 is a lot of money, to buy one other board, i'n not REALLY happy with would be just too frustrating ( and i'm not rich ). vB also dont have moderation per user group by default, the hack was made for my request, and i'm happy with the hack itself ( just a flat forum is still a flat forum... ) Sure the hack wasnt made just for me, some other ppl. was grateful too, found the hack useful... I'm looking for a true threaded forum with moderation per user group since November already, still can not really open my site for public as long i dont have a forum, i'm happy with, could you help me ? Thanks in advance Burns P.S. I also can not post with Zone Alarm Pro active, i get the message: "The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host. " If this post appears not, this means it could be done by deactivation of Zone Alarm I have some questions about it: 1) Is it just www.ubbdev.com thingy, or something general for ubbthreads ? 2) If it is connected with ubbthreads, can i get rid of it with ease by changing admin options ? 3) Is there any solution to post on this board with Zone Alarm Pro active ?

I don't think that hack currently exists, but it doesn't look like it would be hard to do. If you're into hacking yourself, the relevant code is addpost.php, lines 455-472 (version 6.0.2). I'll probably do that hack myself eventually, unless it gets added as a feature, or someone else does it first. I'm not sure whether it would be best to moderate by group or by user. I use Zone Alarm Pro version 2.6.362, and don't have any problems with UBB.threads. If you're using version 3 with the privacy features, it sounds like you may need to configure ZAP so that it doesn't block HTTP_REFERER from being sent.

Yes, i have Zone Alarm Pro 3.0.118, high security settings... But i can not find anything about HTTP_REFERER in settings The most important thing is - these are rather default settings, and I'm sure not the only one, who use ZAP 3 ... I hope it is not connected to ubbthreads in general, else it would be too hard for some users... ( some would just give up before configuring out how to post ) Unfortunately my PHP knowledge is... almost not existing, i would have to learn PHP and UBBthreads structure first... I can not see any advantage in moderation per user: haveing many users it will be not fun to find out: "who did i gave instant posting permission again ???" If it is definded by the group, you just habe to check who is in the group, to see all the info needed... Burns

From what I've heard, the referer is removed when you have high security settings in ZAP. This setting can be turned off though, it really is stupid anyway IMHO. See this post on how to do it. The referer is used by threads to make sure that the users come from within the site when posting and such, it's a way of making the board one step more secure. I haven't heard of many people having any problems with this, and those will have (minor) problems at other sites as well, even though they might not have noticed. But fortunately you can turn this security setting of in the admin area of threads if you don't want it. But I'd only turn it off if there are a lot of people having problems, and my first step would be to give information on how to fix it themselves on the error page. Regarding moderation per user group I don't think it would be that hard to do at all. If no-one else has fixed this in a couple of hours (when I've finished another hack) I'll take a look at this for you.

Hi Gardener, thank you for advice, i will try it as soon i come home ( at work now ). I still see it rather negativ and hope that i can disable this security thing in my forum, as i dont want even one of 100 users will be upset becasue of it... Also i noticed, that i had to allow "3rd party cookies" for the IP of this site today.
But compared to the true threaded view it is not so important, and i hope i can change it even alone so, that threaded forum view/threaded thread view is the only option available ( it's much easier to comment something out then to add new content *g* ) , so it will be exactly what i need: "traditional" threaded forum ( like wwwboard )
I do not own the license yet, without moderation per usergroup i will not be able to open the forum, but i would buy it if moderation per user group is available soon ( also i asked a freind if he could make a hack for vB for threaded view, but he will have time only next week, and i would rather pay for the ready product ( UBBThreads ), then ask him because turning flat into threaded is not so easy, and i would have problems with updates in the future... especially to vB3 )

As I said, it is a configurable option for the admin if the referer check should be used, so that shouldn't be a problem.
I'll look at moderation per user group later today.

I've done a quick mod for this where one user group can be set globally to always be allowed to post in moderated boards. It's just a matter och adding three lines of code to one script, and one extra configuration option. I will post the hack if anyone wants it.
Is this adequate, or would you need more detailed configuration? A slightly more advanced hack would be to be able to add one or more groups to a moderated forum to allow them to bypass the moderation in just that forum.

Hi Gardener, thank you for your help ! I actually i plan to have more then one group, which avoid moderation, besides of admins and moderators at least 2 more. Currently i have another problem: after your answer and installing of trial ubbthreads, i decided to buy the license, but i have a problem with ordering: every time i click on the order confirm botton ( after credit card summary ) i get the site: "Sorry, we could not process your order, due to the following reason: Declined (Error Code: 12) Feel free to use your browser's back button to try again. For assistance, please email us at [] [email protected]."[/] I sent already the email to this address, waiting for answer... I buyed vB with the same card, i can not understand what is the problem now... Very frustrating... May be the difference is that you have to write all the details for credit cards, like city, street and so on... ( most sites where you order something just ask for credit card number and expiration month ) Since i live in Germany, i think may be something have to be written different way... Burns

Ok, so I will have to add the possibility to add several groups to the config option, but that won't be a problem. I'll get that fixed.
But I still wonder if they should be allowed to avoid the moderation in all forums, or if you want to be able to set this specifically for each different forum?
About the payment on Infopop, I don't know what the problem could be, when I paid it wasn't to Infopop. But maybe they also demand the referer to be on, have you tried it with the Zone Alarm off?

It would enough if i could put few groups under moderation for the whole board ( while other groups avoid moderation completely ); sure guests should be under moderation, and the group where the user comes first after registration; the next group would be the one, i add the trusted users manually ( who don't flame/spam/toll ), so it is only "overall" protection for the board what i need. About ordering - the problem is - Verisign is verifying too much information, comparing to the most sites ( name/number/date ), like Adress 1: it would be lile <streetname> <number>, but we write it in so many different forms: Streetname str. <number> ( most common ), it can be Streetname strasse <number>, just Streetname <number>, can be Streetname Strasse <number>, even Streetname-Str. <number> The city - MĂĽnchen - you write "Muenchen" if you dont have "ĂĽ", but on the Europe map it would be "Munich" i guess... Something is wrong, but i tried so many times, it just dont works.. I will try to get the info from my bank tomorrow... Just hope Infopop dont charge me for every error-try ( it would not be funny heh )

OK, you will have half of what you want ready in the Beta Modifications forum, it's the hack called Bypass Moderation 0.1. If you set all forums to moderated new users, as well as anonymous, will be moderated, so you will have what you want I think. If you want to be able to set users in some groups to always be moderated I can add that as well. But it might not be needed, depending on how you want to set things up.
