Background: I was recently migrated from an older version of UBB classic to the threads version. I've never hacked into my code although I've modified my old boards visually.

Question: One of the features I wanted in my upgrade was the ability to use avatars and I see that they are included. What I would like is to have a set of preconfigured avatars available fro people to visually select (this is implemented on infopop's boards.) Many of my users would love to have avatars but have no way to use their own. Is this currently possible or will it be soon?

(I was going to post this soon)

the ubb.classic built avatars into the member profiles. thru the profile, A member could view all the available profiles to him in a popup window which showed all avatars in the /avatars/ directory, select the one he liked and it would populate the fields for him. Normal members could not specify their own url to an avatar, they have to pick from the list

Moderators and admins could pick from the avatars in /avatars/ as well as in /avatars/custom/ directories, or use an external avatar by supplying the URL

This prevented any member from using offensive avatars (which is a real concern on my coppa site) and the custom avatars for moderators/admins was an addditional benefit to them for their volunteer work.

Also, as most of my mebers are kids, they arent real good at figuring out how to add their pic to their profile in ubbt6.1b1. I see many pics with a url of file///c:/my_docs/etc.. This combined with members trying to use pics from geocities and other sites that dont allow it are causing a lot of broken images to be displayed, I hate that!

So does anyone have an idea or a modification that would implement this feature?

I will be working on something simular for my Integrated Index Page in that it allows for the uploading and use of "Topic Icons" in the news posts. If someone doesn't make the "avatar" feature prior to me finishing mine I'll convert it over for use in the user profiles.

I just made an addon to ubbt 6.1 that lets you have an avatar page for users to pick an avatar from. It is located here.
