For a long time I was doing this manually in the db by hand. Not yet the crack in regular expressions, so help is welcome

If a user posts a link somewhere in his message I would like to have local links opening in the same window. So external links will still have the target="blank", local links not.

For example this should open in the same window, because it's a forum-internal link.

Yes, I think that would be nice.

I concur with this suggestion. It should, in theory, be relatively easy to implement, using a small HTTP referer verification (or a set variable for the "local" domain name) routine which subsequently assigns the HREF target attribute accordingly.
