Pre-requisites - none
Working under - 6.1.1
Author - JoshPet - for discussion and bug reports come to www.ubbdev.com
Credits - FredR for requesting it
Files Altered - showprofile.php
Database Altered - no
New Files - none
Any other info - Always backup files you intend to modify and modify the code at your own peril.

Thank you Josh!

That was a quick fix. Actually too quick but I am sure someone else will be able to use it.

As it stands, the CHEFS are voting overwhelmingly to get rid of the rating system alltogher.

Here's what they post about themselves:

Chef Rule #1 - A Chef is never wrong.

Chef Rule #2 - In the rare event that a chef is wrong, apply Rule #1

So here is their next request: (apply Rule #2)

Replace the Member Titles with the Stars...

Fred

Hi,

"As it stands, the CHEFS are voting overwhelmingly to get rid of the rating system alltogher."
We just recently switched to 6.1.1 and the response on the board is pretty much the same as on yours. People do NOT like the rating system.

Is there a way to switch it off completely?

Right now, to remove the ratings, you can edit them out of the templates.

Instructions can be found here.

Don't quote me, but I *think* I read over at Infopop Community that Rick was putting in a ratings on/off switch in 6.2.

My users finally ended up being happy with the ratings by using the "Profile Status Bar", it uses the rating system to show the completeness of someone's profile... and displays a status bar so you can see at a glance who has a profile to read...

It saves you clicking on a username, only to find out that their profile is empty.

We've seen hundreds of new profiles filled in over the last couple of months. It's working well.

It's a good alternative to "user ratings".

Hi,

Thanks.

Don't think there will be much point in using a similar approach. Most people on my board would prefer to stay fairly anonymous.

6.2 does have a rating on/off option in admin but even with it off, the rating column still shows... I guess I have to remove that manually.

6.2 only allows you to turn off User ratings.

Thread ratings still need to be edited out of the templates. Instructions are in our template forum.

heh - had I know someone wanted this, I would have posted my Quick Fix. We did this on our site as well. Minimium number of posts to rate a user and we have a "forum motions" which require a majority vote by members - this also restricts people who can vote on Forum Motions by their post count.
