Mod Name / Version: Private Messages Via Email 1.2
     Version 1.1 updates instructions to work with Threads ver 6.2
     Version 1.2 fixes an error in the "Sender's Name" when a new message is sent w/ preview. Added the feature where it will email you a copy of the message if you click "save a copy"-thanks sportbikes.

Description: This hack expands the notification of Private Messages via email by showing you the actual message, and who it is from inside the email. Great way to keep up with your PMs when you don't have time to browse the site, and an excellent way to save PMs before they are purged from the database by the admins. Also changes the subject of the email to contain the actual subject of the PM as I sometimes have 50 "You Have New Messages" messages.
If you have email notification of Private Messages on, and you click "save a copy" when sending a PM, a copy to save will be emailed to you.

Credits: I've wanted this forever...finally learned enough about PHP Mail to do it.
         Sportsbikes for suggesting the idea to save a copy yourself.

Notes: Very simple hack. IMHO, Should be a standard threads feature.

The emails you will receive will look like this:

THANKS I missed this one earlier.

This works for all PMs? not just Admins correct?

Also, any ideas... I send out lots of PMs via replies, and some I wish to memorialize. Will this work on out going PMs?

It works on all PMs that you receive if you have Email notification of PMs turned on in your profile.

But your suggestion.... I ought to make it (in the next version) email yourself a copy if you've checked the "save a copy" box. I agree and use this as a way to save PMs and file them in my email program for later access.

That's the easy part

OK - Updated the main post of this thread with ver 1.2

It fixes a bug where it wasn't showing the senders name when the message was previewed.

Since I had to revise it, I added the ability to save Outgoing PMs as well.

If you have email notification of Private Messages on in your profile, and you check "Save a Copy" when sending a message, a copy will be sent to you via Email.

THANKS!! I know that will help me... since in 3 months I have 350 outgoing PMs that I saved.

Any way to quickly save the ones already sent

There is a mod around here that used to allow you the ability to check the boxes next to them and click "email" instead of delete and they would be sent to you.

When I get a sec I'll see if I can find it and see how far away from 6.2 it is.

Making it work with 6.2 shouldn't be to difficult. You may want to add some code to clean up html breaks <br /> or if the messages are very old <br> prior to sending the email. I'm not sure if anything else should be addressed though.
