Thanks - seems crazy that anonymous users are also classified as **DONOTDELETE**. Perhaps we ought to rename the **DONOTDELETE** to a more user friendly term, as I can see a lot of moans from users on this one

Or better still anonymous users should be linked to a different placeholder, with perhaps deleted users linked to yet another one.

The place holder user's name isn't required to be **DONOTDELETE** it was just done that way so everyone would know not to delete that user...

You could run ths sql command:

UPDATE w3t_Users
SET U_Username = 'Anonymous'
WHERE U_Number = '1'

That should make things look right.

I just updated IIP 5.2's zip file. Unregistered users that use the shout box will have the "Anonymous" username which can be adjusted in the language file.

Also fixed the alter table script. Thought I had fixed that once already but I must have not uploaded it.

I'm not sure is this is applicable in v5.2, but it is in 5.1 that I'm using. Since the user name is taken from the form and not the database, malicious users can send whatever they want as their name. I haven't checked how or exactly what they've done, but I just saw someone who made their username very large. Of course, if I'd have referer check turned on, this wouldn't be quite as easy, bu still doable if they spoof the referer.

As a side note, I think it would be nice to be able to disallow some markups since some people think it is fun to enter large images and stuff in their shouts. For myself, if I see it one more time I'll disallow markups completely, if they can't handle the feature I won't let them have it. I certainly won't spend time coding stuff just because they think it's fun to break the features they are given.

In 5.2 the script shoutadd.php looks at the user's ID number to add the shout.

Now that I think of it... anonymous users probably can't use a specific name when posting, right? I probably should remove the code that checks the incoming name for validity. It's of no use now.

I figured the customizable markup ability of .threads will start causing problems for some eventually. A disallow list of markup isn't something I have planned in the near future though.

After looking around I see that anonymous names are stored in the post. I'll be updating the two shout scripts that can use this information. The anonymous name will only be displayed when the shout is stored under UID #1

Hi dave

I've just upgraded to 6.6 so I thought I would do a clean upgrade of the II5.2.

Downloaded the zip file (10 mins ago) and the index.php only has 3 lines .

===================================================
<?
header("Location: http://www.chattersonline.com/test/index.php?Cat=");
?
==================================================

so where can I find this ........

Step 1.

Open the index.php file and edit the $palspath variable to indicate the full path
to your .threads directory.

THX

Thanks

Hi dave

Changed the $palspath = and uploaded

ran the index.php
took me to a page that says
Index closed
"We are currently updating this page..."
And i'm shown as loged in but not as admin.

I have another browser window open aon my main page and it says I'm logged in as admin.

When I click the link " .: IIP by David Lozier ©2002 :. " where it's supposed to take me to the config it takes me to your site.

When I go direct to the II5.2 config page it says
"You must be logged in and be an Administrator to access this"

But I am logged in?
Had similar probs with 5.1

Do you think my $palspath = path is wrong?

Thanks

I have no idea why it doesn't grab your cookie value. Perhaps your running with register globals off? IIP isn't ready for that at the moment. Do you have that admin acount still available? I'll try it. I can't see why it isn't working...

I logged in, went to the index page, clicked on the link and edited the configure panel options and updated your database. I didn't encounter any of the problems you have with the admin link.

I would suggest cleaning out your browser's cache and cookies. Perhaps you have some security setting to high or something. I really can't say what would be causing that problem.

Hi Dave

I deleted all cookies and Temp files

Wen't to index.php

The config link at bottom still says your page?

Got your index page but I'm still not logged in, so I log in but it takes me to the main index which has no entrance link to go back to youe index page.

Could it be the "set wide" thing can't remember where that is now? Nope not that already done..

What now?

Thanks

You should be logged in before going to IIP's index page. The links in your forum's navigation bar are not in place. I'll put them in.

Hi Dave

Yep, by golly that's done it.

That's probably why, I couldn't understand how to login and get back to the config page.

Now for some fun filling in the boxes and jazing up the site, can't wait for that new template now.

Thanks and have a good one.

JustDave, GREAT addon!

I'm working on integrating this concept into my new site design, but....

*set's off the alarms* STUPID QUESTION TIME!

One of my forums is dedicated to my member's creative abilities in writing... stories, poetry, etc. I'd love to be able to use one of the custom blocks to list, say the last 5-10 posts, just subject lines and maybe author's name in a list.

Any ideas or code snippets you can suggest to make this work? I already have a news forum set up to be the center piece for the page, but being able to set this up in a small box on the side would really enhance my site.

Or maybe it's already there and I just need to find it... I'll admit that I'm converting from .Classic so my Threads knowledge is still weak. But I'm learning fast!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Zack

Hi JUST an FYI I had no idea that this was the case and have been running with Register globals OFF on my main site for some time. is there a way to turn register globals on with an option via .htaccess PHP_Flag or something like that? or can I only turn this on via the conf file? Thanks

Dave, I tried running the IIP.5.2.modifydatabase.php but nothing realy happens.
I have the same problems running the altertable script for upgrading from 6.1.1 to 6.2.
Screem gave me a hint for adding this: $step = get_input("step","get"); to the altertable script and that helped a little (see: http://community.infopop.net/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=729094322&f=6103078913&m=8783028096 ) but I can still not completely run that script.
I tried adding the same line to the IIP.5.2.modifydatabase.php but still nothing happening.
I am running Win2k IIS5, pgp4.2 and mySQL 3.23.53
Anyone who knows what might be wrong?

Best regards,

Ron

Another thing I noticed that the script tries to create a configpal.php and that works. The file is created but no mather what your enter and update via editconfigpal.php, the variables in configpal.php remain empty:

// =================================================================================
// VERSION
$palVersion = "";

// =================================================================================
// INDEX

// Display INITIAL SETUP box when editing the configpal.php script?
$showinitial = ;

// url to index.php (no trailing slash / and don't include the actual file)
$pal_index['URL'] = "";

// left column width
$leftcolwidth = "";

// center column width
$centercolwidth = "";

// right column width

ect...

Regards,

Ron

Yes it's a case of register globals, I believe. I'll upload an updated zip file that should do the trick untill I can address this properly.

I should have the zip uploaded within the hour.

You could probably make the news addon in the ubbthreads/addons directory do exactly what you need. You can set it to list for a specific forum and set it's display properties. It's a clean little script so it would be a good starting place for someone just starting out.

You will also want to change this line:

// Require the library
require ("$path/main.inc.php");

to this:

// Require the library
require_once ("$path/main.inc.php");

Because your going to use this inside a pal box there is no need to require the library more than once as it will have already been done.
