[]Do you guys have the Who's Online pal box enabled? [/] I do and I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm misunderstanding just what Max Online is supposed to be displaying. My Max Online is updating every 2 days or so but the numbers sometimes go down. As of now, 03/15/03 11:48 PM, my Max Online box displays the date 03/14/03 10:48 PM. To me that looks like it hasn't updated in over 24 hours. Bill

But have you gone over those numbers.
The Max Online is like a high-point record. It won't change until you go over those numbers again.

Is it just using Total as the "high" point? I thought is was displaying the high point for Members, Guests and Total.
My current Total may be at it's highest point, but my Members was at 19 about 2 days ago and it's at 16 now.

I'm not 100% certain. But looking at it.. looks like it uses the total people online as the high point. So if there were 60 people max online (40 users and 20 guests) it won't update again until there are 61 users online (even if that's 30 users and 41 guests). Otherwise if it bumped the total of one of them.... then the total wouldn't match the total number of people online. That's what it's really tracking. It just gives the breakdown for some extra info.

Correct me if I am wrong but your "Members" total will reflect registered members at the current time of being updated. If say a newly registered member doesn't return the confirmation email (if you have that function enabled)then your total members would reflect that also by going down once that entry gets deleted.

No this counts "members online" (logged in).... not total registered members.

First off, great work here by JustDave and JoshPet . We just installed (IIP) 5.3 but it seems to pull info from the database extremely slow; about 1 to 2 minutes to query the MYSQL db. Is there something that i can check to speed up the page load times? Thank you.

Yeah,
You should try the "force public" option near the top... then set each pal box to cache the information. That way it doesn't need to look up everything on every page load. Also.... if you read down through the setup, it tells you what options slow things down etc.....
But caching the info should help alot.

I tried that and we have even stripped it down to a few items and still have almost 30 seconds to load. Here is what it is like with everything on it http://forums.operationsports.com//ubbthreads/pals/index.phpI would love to have this as a front page if we could get it to load as quickly as it does here.

One thing I noticed although it might not matter is that you are using double slashes after the .com. Also there was a popup that was telling me that my ip address was being populated - dunno if this was intentional or came out of another website but java might slow you down.

The // has always been there but taking one away does not seem to affect anything. The java was a popup and it has been removed temporarily but did not solve the problem.

Another suggestion: Did you check whether your database is optimized? Maybe another suggestion is to drop the IIP cache table and recreate it.
What you could also do is display the debugging information at the bottom of the page (below the copyright notice).
Strange though. At work I have a 2Mbit leased line and it took me the best part of 10 seconds to see the front page while here at home with 512Kbit I saw it in 4 seconds.... At work I was using IE 6 while at home I use Mozilla.

Also... if your forum is big... disable any pal boxes you don't absolutely need. Try turning most of them off... and putting them back little by little. That can help you track down which one adds a great deal of load. When you do, you can play with the settigns for that pal box, and see if it helps.

Wow, this is a really long thread. I tried to read everything but I kind of got lost around page 30, so forgive me if this has been asked and answered. We just installed 5.3 with Threads 6.2.3, and we love it, and you've done a great job. But we can't get the "profile spotlight" to display consistently. We've set all the directory and file permissions as you specified earlier in this thread. The change happens but then on reload the profile spotlight is gone. We've tried changing cache times, removing some or all of the checked profile fields, and nothing. Last night we did isolate this, however: if you use the "index.php?Cat=&RefCache=1" extension, the profile loads just fine, and in fact it will refresh if you refresh that page. Any other URL ("index.php" or whatever) displays the page without the profile spotlight. Any ideas?

I'm having a date problem with my front page. If you go to http://www.drumlines.org you'll see that the first Announcement's date (Keywords) is dated to have been posted 12/31/69. Looks like I'm the first Internet site ever! Any ideas? The date is correct when you go to the actual post. I have run "Check Last Post Date" and even "Thread and Post Counts" but neither found the error. The problem only seems to be a(e)ffecting the IIP page. I have renewed the cache and even gotten rid of the announcements on IIP and then added them again. Still says 12/31/69

Xenxy - the problem is the cache timeout - it doesnt work in the current verson of IIP. Unless you have a period of time where nobody hits your page for the timeout period, the cache will never change.
Its a known bug.

I would like to know if it's possible to make my forum work as drawn in the picture below. I've seen it on other sites, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction [] http://www.multifire.nl/example2.jpg[/] Thank you!

That looks kind of like what we do here. The sidebar modification is posted somewhere here... it allows you to create a sidebar and users can choose to put it left/right or off. I've done the shoutbox on the sidebar. To include more pal boxes (like we do here) is a bit more complicated. JustDave's next release (long awaited) will make this easier though. that's what we have here.

Thank you for your quick reply Josh! My plan was to wait for the new version of the IIP, but it's taking too long now, so started with this one today I will try to find the sidebar mod. Thanks

I killed my shout box and tried reinstalling it but no luck. I could delete the old posts but it wouldn't allow me to post to it. I deleted the forum and tried again... guess I will wait for the 5.5 to come out to try again. I must have removed something along the way in all the mods I installed. Shout box is turned off right now.

Shout box shows up just fine but nothing gets added to it when trying to post. Shout screen goes blank when you submit.

As the "self-appointed" keeper of IIP in JustDave's absence... I have updated the main post to version 5.3.1. No "real" changes were made. The only changed file is index.php and editconfigpal.php (updated version number in there). I just tweaked it to work with UBB.Threads version 6.2 and 6.3.

Thanks This isn't important, but there are two extraneous files named .DS_Store in the .zip.

Doah.... thanks. I think I need to update my "stuffit" on the mac. It keeps telling me that there's a new version. Updated my OS the other day, and since then, those files are ending up in my zips.

Anyone with similar problems? im running threads 6.2.3 and IIP 5.3.1

Yeah, I noted it in the sidebar thread. Didn't realize it for IIP as well, but makes sense since it's the same file. If I get a chance to see what I can see, I will.

Actually I just checked this out. It works fine on the index page. Just not in the sidebar. Weren't you the one with all the path problems at infopop community? It looks like the poll pal uses PHP_SELF.... which some servers aren't set up for. That may have been the install issues you had. Try this. Backup your file first. But in index.php try changing PHP_SELF to SCRIPT_NAME There's only one occurance, about halfway down. Do a find for it. See if that helps.

Is it just you... or can others not vote.
The poll pal uses some javascript to work.
Do you have a URL to your site?
