I'm using UBB.threads 6.2 and IIP 5.2 at http://www.coreplanets.com

On my IIP page at the above address I have Member Spotlight turned on, however, after a few days the Member Spotlight box will disappear off the page. If I go into the admin area it still shows as checked and on.

Any ideas on why the box will just stop displaying after a few days?

The random selection goes out of range now and then so it ends up displaying nothing. This "nothing" is also cached so it also lasts for as long as you have cache set for that box. I can't see how it could last for days though since it's updated at ever 15 minutes by default, I believe.

In short, known bug.

I made a slight change to the code. I'll try and keep an eye on it here to see if it works/helps. The other thing to keep in mind is that if you specify required fields that nobody has filled out you may not get anything displayed untill your users fill the fields in in their profiles.

Well, it would be days because I set some the time in minutes to the equivalent of a couple of days. We don't have a lot of members, so I didn't want the box to be changing every 15 minutes, but to stay on someone for a day or two. I'll keep checking to see if it every brings itself back.

On your second post, I only have two boxes checked for the spotlight to search and I know there are a dozen or so membes who have those fields completed (especially since for a short period when I had it set at 15 minutes they showed up).

When your logged in as an admin you can click on the green circular arrow next to the "Entrance" menu item in the menu box to refresh cache manually. That may or may not bring the random profile box back into display.

I was wondering what that green symbol meant, and yes, it does bring back the member spotlight, at least temporarily. Some of the other content seems slow to update on its own. Is there an overall setting I've missed somewhere for IIP to update its cache automatically?

Cache is updated as users and guests visit the page. There are individual cache times for each box that can be cached. Adjust the times accordingly.

From JustDave in this thread

[]I have a work-around for the vanishing random profile. What happens is that the query comes up empty and nothing is displayed and a blank is added to the cache. The way I got around this here was to check to see if the query came up empty and if it did I don't update the field. It seems to be working here. [/]

Thanks ChAoS for lending a hand. (I would have made the same post as you)

My release of IIP 5.5 should be out this coming Monday and I'll have this fix in along with the sidebarpal.php script as well.
