I like the idea about the shout box used for quick chat. I know it is a part of IIP but I was wondering has anyone made this a stand-alone mod? I have searched but haven't found an answer.

No it's not a stand alone mod. You could set IIP up and not use the index page at all and then just use the "quick chat" spin-off.

What about the pop up window? Couldn't you copy the link to that and put it in the menu bar somewhere, then turn off the display in the pal box? Haven't tried it but it occured to me that this might work.

Yeah, that works.... I posted instructinos to that called "Quick Chat". I think he just doesn't want to install the IIP stuff.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that popup window link in the shout box's title is what "quick chat" is/does.

Yup.. Quick chat is just the link to open it in a popup.

How would you add a link to it on the main bb nav bar? I see the link as a java popup.
I might try adding the sidebar to my main bb section. Is there a hack... must be. ok off to find quick chat

Exactly. Like I said before, I'm new and that scares me. LOL
It normally wouldn't bother me to try but I tried a hack a couple of weeks ago and altered the database and the forums were down for awhile because I have no idea how to back that up before trying stuff. The other hacks that I did I just renamed the files that I replaced so I always can change the originals back if something happens.

Yeah, look inside the "Forum Design Integration" forum for my post called something like "TIP: Quick Chat" for instructions.

IIP is pretty safe to install. The only thing the shoutbox needs is a forum setup on you site. Nobody sees it, but it stores the shouts temporarily in a forum.

JustDave or other developers for hire (like myself) would be willing to install it for you for a modest fee if you are afraid to fool with it.

IIP is much more easy to set up than it used to be. It's impact on actual .threads scripts is minimal. Give it a try.

I did and my forums went down for a day. As soon as I clicked on the modify database button it popped up a box that said 1 table was changed (I think just one) and when I clicked on ok or whatever button was there it all went crazy. Started giving me all kinds of errors and I couldn't do anything. I had to get the other administrator (the one that actually knows what he is doing) to repair it and he told me no more upgrades for me. LOL

Was it a new install or an upgrade? I don't think I have heard of anyone having problems with the table modifications. There were problems when I initially made the changes to this script where it kept track of the versions and updated accordingly. (I had forgot how many different versions there actually was) LoL

It was a new install. I do't think it was the IIP, I also had that problem one other time when I tried to do a mod that altered the database. It kept giving a page full of mysql errors on different lines of different php files.
