would it be possible to have sub directorys so each board has it's own attachment directory ?
Right now all attachments are saved in one directory so it's a little hard to clean it up .
I have one board thats for graphics , I'd like to keep all them online but clean up all the attachments from the rest of the forum.
so looks like a attachment directory hack is needed

it would be sweet if someone could tackle this one .

What do you mean by "cleaning up"? Don't the attachments get deleted when you delete the corresponding posts?

In any case, I think a simpler approach would be an addon for cleaning up the attachments, which displays them by board. That would minimize the hacking required.

In this thread JustDave helped me with a utility that deleted all my "orphaned" attachments. It worked great.

Hey, this idea isn't stupid. The attachments are not organized in any way.

I think what he means is the following:

Board UBB1
Board UBB2
Board UBB3

/attachments/UBB1 ; announcement board
/attachments/UBB2 ; files for users
/attachments/UBB3 ; avatars

He has different categories and wants sub directories so that he can directly see which files are belonging to which category. I think that give a nice overview how much space a category needs and could initialize a cleanup (delete old shite ))

Nice suggestion I think but I see also problems. What happens if a thread with an attachment is move from one board to another? Also the attachment must be move then etc...

That would be very doable.. and I guess you'd need to modify the scripts that move and delete threads as well, so that they move... delete the attachments from the proper location.

Probably would be very doable.

I was wondering this too. I am working on putting up a sheet music section on my website. I am using Dalan's article template and inline attachments for this. It would be great if I could keep all of the sheet music files seperate from the other stuff.

So the reason for this post? Just wanted to raise my hand to say someone else would be interested in this.

It's a long paying list I'm working on right now... but if I ever find myself with nothign to do... I could think of a use or two for this myself. It's on my list. Someday.
