How about having moderations only on new threads in selected forums? This would certainly be useful in article-forums to allow users to post new articles which needs to be approved, but commenting on articles would not have to be approved.

I like this idea. I can think of a number of uses for this on my boards.  I personally don't have any idea how to put something like this together, but I still think it's a great idea.
