We have a setup where people can register "alter egos" on our board. In the editbasic is a field they fill in to identify their "main" id and it allows us to make sure that we dont have Trolls. It also lets me keep our monthly contests legit as AEs are not eligible.

It got me thinking - what if there were an AE Mod. One that worked like we have, but also had a dropdown list where people could choose a personality for the post they are about to make (versus logout/login to make the post).

Anyone heard of such a hack or interested in something similiar?

Sounds cool.

The only drawback I would see is if the alter ego's started talking to each other and answering back.

Time to be scared----very scared.

So seriously now. Your thinking I assume to adding a few tables to w3t_Users to track and mark them main or alter and which user. Kind of like Parent Child kinda thing to track things and allow a toggle to switch automatically between the main and all alter's assigned to the UserID.

If I understand where you are going with this it would be great. I think it would cut down on trolls alot. Sometimes people want to express an opinion or such and do not want to express it themselves. Maybe only ADMINS and MODS know which alterego's belong to who.

This would be great for officialish news type posts from admins but not from their regular posting name.

I suggested something like this a while back!

I started working on something similar some time ago, which was sort of the same thing as my Multiple Signatures hack, but it would also change the username to be shown. So there wouldn'nt be new users, just some extra information. But I remember the pain of installing the Multiple Signatures hacck, so I lost interest, there were to many scripts to change.
