Mod Name / Version: Birthday Cron Job 2.1

Description: This addon can do 2 things. It can send everyone a PM on their birthday. And/or it can make a post in a specified forum announcing everyone's birthday. This gives your members a place to reply with well wishes.

It's fully configurable. You can choose to have it just do the PMs, or just make the posts, or both. You can control what user number the PMs or Post come from. You can edit the content of the PMs and Post.

Version 2.1 fixes a bug with the user's option to display their birthday publically.

Working Under: UBB.Threads 6.4

Mod Status: Beta

Any pre-requisites: UBB.Threads 6.4 & the ability to run a cron job.

Author(s): JoshPet

Date: 01/02/04

Credits:

Files Altered: none

New Files: birthdaycron.php

Database Altered: none

Info/Instructions: Drop the script into your UBBThreads directory and set up a cron job to run it once a day (or run it in your browser daily). Edit the variables at the top of the file to customize the option.

Disclaimer: Please backup every file that you intend to modify.
If the modification modifies the database, it's a good idea to backup your database before doing so.

Note: If you modify your UBB.Threads code, you may be giving up your right for "official" support from Infopop. If you need official support, you'll need to restore unmodified files.

Not currently, that'd be a good feature enhancement for future versions.

For those of us who are not as advanced, can you please indicate how we would determine
$boardkeyword
for the forum we want the birthday greeting to appear in?

Thanks for your time!

You defined it when you setup the forum. If you're not sure anymore - as you're viewing the list of posts - mouse over the links to the forum (or click on them) and in the URL you'll see "Board=whatever". That's the keyword for the forum.

Updated the zip to version 2.1. This fixes a minor bug where the user's preference option (new in 6.4) to display their birthday publically (on the calendar) was being ignored.

I don't understand what you mean when you say "set up a cron job"

Cron is a task shedule like windows taskmanager. U must be able to install or modify the cron tab file of your webserver. If you dont have a own server you need to ask your provider to do it for you.

The remider script should run once per day.
