I'd prefer to have private topics, that more than one person can join in on. This would also aid in the monitoring of said conversations. If people want to talk in private, they can email each other.

Doable?

Nikos has done this. Don't think it was posted, but I think he's done this for one of his clients or on his own board.

Hi,

Wouldn't it be easier to set up a private forum?

A private forum requires certain permissions (such as you must be a mod or admin). A private thread is similar to a private message, but the one who starts a private thread can invite a multiple number of users instead of just one. Currently UBB.x can do this. For some reason though, in eve Infopop renamed the private thread feature to private messages. But in eve, you can still invite a multiple number of users.

Let's say you have 10 members, chances are they don't want everyone knowing they are tlaking about the ones not invited..LOL

One thing that I have noticed in my experiences with Private Topics is that they tend to widen rifts among community members and give rise to factions or cliques that can become fiercely opposed to the other factions.

Just my nickel.

Wouldn't something like "Multiple Recipients" for PM's suffice just as well and which would only require a modification of something Threads already has? In the old Perl version, there was a hack for this very thing. And, it also gave the Administrator the ability to specify the maximum number of recipients one could PM, e.g., 5, 7, 10.
