We have been running a few polls with regards to the board. This caused one of my members to come up with an interesting idea.

I've noticed here that every time there's a change, either major or minor, the board admin are kind enough to ask us all our opinions.
This is usually done with a poll - all very democratic and proper.
Examples:
* News Forum(23/03/04) - 44 votes
* Quick Reply (20/02/04) 55 votes
* Reducing the Amount of Forums (03/03/04) 4 polls, 91 votes each
The trouble with this is that there don't seem to be enough votes to get a statistically accurate picture, as the examples above illustrate.
My suggestion is that if a really important change comes up, would it be possible for a special type of poll to appear (once, not each time) as the start up page for each member logging in over a given time frame. The poll would also appear elsewhere on the board in the usual manner, for follow up comments, reference, etc.
This type of poll wouldn't have to be compulsory, and could be easily ignored, but you would get a much better idea of member opinion, because at least everyone would see it.
Of course, this option would have to be used very sparingly, so as not to piss everyone off with endless polls about all sorts of trivial crap. So these polls only postable by Admin/Mods.

My only comment on this would be that I think that it should be only Admins who should have the right to add a poll like this.
I guess that the way to do this would be change the start page in the database, then upon them logging in they would be moved to this page (a normal thread containing the poll) and the start page would be reset to its previous value.
