It looks like Safari is going to be the dominant Mac browser. I forget, is Safari based on Mozilla or Konqueror?

I have to agree with this post on slashdot.com as far as when support for other M$ products will end:

Safari => Konqueror

Camino (was Chimera) => Mozilla

I use both, Safari by default, Camino for those pages in which javascript breaks in Safari

IE won't be missed.

I too am not too worried about no more IE. The OS X version was kind-of crap anyway. I'm more worried about the few sites out there that literally check your browser and if its not IE6 they won't let you in. I know you can set Safari to try and fool such sites, but I've ran into a couple that still blocked me from getting in. One even had the nerve to tell me I had to be using Windows to get in, sheesh!

And they had stopped IE for Unix as well some time ago. So it is only the Windows platforms....

Anyone designing for IE specifically is still trying to ride Microsoft's coat tails to some sort of glory. Since Longhorn isn't scheduled untill 2005 and there is no new IE versions till then I hope the other browsers gain much more ground during that time. People building their sites without standards compliancy in mind are painting themselves into a corner. Honestly, I don't miss IE at all. I do have it around for testing but that's it. I have to think what possibly could Microsoft do for IE 7 that would make people want to switch to Longhorn to be able to use it? Make my coffee? Do the dishes? Adding more feature bloat isn't going to make it better. I intend on making my sites standards compliant and if for some reason that breaks IE in certain cases then so be it. If the world changes regardless of Microsoft they will eventually have to follow.

IE for the Mac is, IMHO, the most standards non-compliant browser on the planet! I get more complaint about web pages not displaying properly on IE for the Mac than I do any other browser. As long as I script my pages to be XML compliant the complaints are non existent unless the user is running IE for the Mac.

I for one am glad to see it go the way of the dinosaur! If you are a Mac user you're suppose to "think different" -so why use a MS application anyway...

I think that award definetly goes to NS 4.5 and 4.7x.
You have the choice if you want to be standard compilant or support NS 4.x.

Very true, but most people have heard about the problems with NS 4.7 and avoid it like a venereal disease. IF they persist in claiming that there is a scripting error on my site I can direct them to several web sites that detail the bugs in NS 4.7. With IE for the Mac there are actually a few Mac web sites that claim it is the most standards compliant browser -so try convincing a Mac user that the error they are seeing on your page is caused by their browser...

MS, standards compliant. That's a laugh. Embrace, extend, extinguish. That's how MS's handles standards.

They tried all that and failed. An example is the TCP / IP stack in Windows XP and 2000 -it's the same stack that BSDI Unix uses
