You were correct, I had gotten a little carried away with "normalizing" the top section across the different files and had added a little too much to a couple of them... anyways, fixed, and download files updated again. ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

Sad to say I am still having problems sending messages to users with the / character in their username. I would a give a huge steak dinner to have this fixed!!!! ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) I have set up the usual test/test account on the test site located HERE and if you try to send a test to a user with the / you'll see. Am I the only one? Could be something other than PM? ------------------ Tony (Vipermad) Rickard Viper Club UBB Admin This message has been edited by Vipermad on January 08, 2001 at 07:06 PM

Yes, Vipermad, I noticed that as well. One of my members has a pound (#) in their UserName and it says the person isn't registered. I think it's kind of like Spawn's name where he has = signs in his name but you must put it as |EQUL| ------------------

Allen, do you experience the same problems with the / in the username here? I thought about registering another name, but figured I'd go to the source (no pun intended) first. ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) ------------------ Tony (Vipermad) Rickard Viper Club UBB Admin

I'm experiencing this problem. Every time I've read a post and click on the "pm" icon, the new popup window opens and I get another window telling me there is an error at a certain line and ask me if I want to debug it or not. I had to click "No" about 25 times before that other window goes away. Any idea? At first I thought it was because of the banner but then i've tried without a banner and had the same results. Here is the error message:
Error A runtime error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?
Line: 480 Error: Syntax Error

crusader, have you used the latest files? It sounds like either a problem with codebuttons or the im, and both should be error-free in the latest zip. Vipermad, I haven't tried that, but it is possible. What version is your ubb? It is possible that the "/" is not allowed anymore in registered users names... ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

Allen: Some of my members at my UBB are experiencing some problems sending PM's (they get the dreaed 500 ISE), while I can send/receive with ease. I used my account and a test account and they worked fine. Then I used a members account and I got a 500 ISE for some unknown reason. I'm using the current PM files in the DB file compared them and still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. ------------------

Allen, I'm working on test sites of 5.45c. On one live site I have an older version that works fine with the / character....I don't know (shrug)...I'll do some more digging. I'll say it first, right here, that the boards I maintain are pretty heavily hacked...so I will NOT point the finger at PM's. I just can't go THAT far...but I will keep looking for clues. ------------------ Tony (Vipermad) Rickard Viper Club UBB Admin

Viper, most likely the "/" isn't an allowed character anymore... no1, you are given the choice to put it at the top or the bottom... you might want to read the instructions a little more carefully. ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

You have something besides the pm's wrong with your layout. Look at the Category Strip going across the top. You have: Forum Topics Posts Threads Total Posts Last Post Moderator What is the "total posts" and "last post" column for? That's what's messing your layout up. Go into your Ultimate.cgi and delete this section: Start there and see if it doesn't correct your problem. ------------------ Duke

Alright... question... didn't see this one addressed before...
I have PM 3.8 installed on 5.47d. All the file permissions are correct. I am upgrading from an older version... but I just copied over the contents of the private folder from my old version board. Changed all the private files perms to 777 just in case.
Now most of my users including myself had more than 30 PMs in there. When opening it for the first time you briefly see the privateview.cgi page then it dumps to the privatedelete.cgi with an Internal Server Error. Upon entering the PMs again it opens fine and the offending messages over 30 have been deleted.
To test this theory I also tried sending a message to myself once I am at 30. After it finished sending the message I get the same error. It pops back the privateview.cgi, then dumps me to an Internal Server Error on the privatedelete.cgi page.
The delete page appears to be working fine as I can delete messages normally any other times... from view or the message itself. And it even deletes them on the auto-delete function just fine, but it never successfully makes it back to the privateview.cgi page.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure it's a code glitch... as this might have been one of the out there circumstances you might not have tested for. Thanks
-Nick

Back to my sending problem: For some reason, members can send IM's but cannot send PM's. Now I'm certain the IM's are integrated with PM's. Any idea what in the world is going on? ------------------

I am getting a 500 error msg on privatesend.cgi when I try to send a msg. Privateview.cgi works alright as far as I can tell and I was able to change my preferences. All the files have been chmoded. The perl path is correct. The board is version 5.47d. I have no idea why this is happening. Thanks. Account test/test has been setup. Edit: Actually I cant add posts anywhere on the board due to this hack. I dont have memberlist or ubb code buttons hack installed could that be a problem? I guess everyone has seen the UBB 6 PMs over at InfoPop.
Any plans for a migration utility between this superb hack and the new standard PMs?
In fact the UBB 6 PM will need some of the features here and I am sure we will see enhancements developed for it.

Yes Pilot, the pm's for v6 are rather "interesting" tho a nice base for additional functionality, should someone choose. The v6 code is still a moving target right now, especially the pm portion, since it was just added, so it may be a while before we can have something unchanging enuf to work with. Stay tuned tho, and we always welcome input for it. Karo, what version ubb are you trying to modify? the modcolumn stuff is 5.46 and up... ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

Hey I posted this in MOD questions, but thought I'd post here as well..
Well I have a 5.47c board, I have PM 3.8 and everything is working fine, preferences, ignore (except that it doesn't show up a name in the ignore list, when one is added) and that has to do with the problem I am experiencing... This is old site but new version and new board that we are working on before releasing.. I think everything was working fine before, not sure... But now when opening a sent PM, it shows no content in the message, it's empty and for where it should display the user, it says unregistered??
It might be possible that I have all the old addon's for the PM, from another board, than did this 3.8 updated version 3 days ago, but just uploaded the old addons, could that be anything?? If so, why isn't any other funtion not working??? Can anyone help??

Mine works fine now...kinda...You have to(usually)remember to change the perl location on the first line of the cgi-bin files that are added. The problem I have is when I go into a forum and view a thread. An error comes up: [There was an error in the directives] or something like that. The rest of the thread shows up, but it's bad cosmetically. Click here to view problem

DR3, that is a problem with your who's online script. You need to fix the SSI call in ubb_library2.pl. Check the who's online thread for multiple answers to that question.
Nick, quite possibly a bug.... I haven't seen it, but doesn't mean it isn't there... I have seen it autodelete without the 500 ISE... I know you said your file permissions were correct, but is your private directory (and the files within) set to 777?

Allen, Just checked the permissions again and they are indeed 777 on the private directory. The only one wierd circumstance that happened is I had copied the contents of the private directory over from an older version of PM. When I did this tried to redo the permissions on the files to full 777. That seemed to fix most of the initial problems with getting back into the files. The only glitch was I had a few users that names start with special characters that I can't escape like ' and -. So I couldn't change the permissions on those files. If you wanna take a look to get some ideas where the problem might be happening drop by the board it's at http://www.i-club.com. If you wanna sign up for an account and flood a PM box you can send them to me NickCat on my board. (note: the warning is set to 90 and the auto-delete happens after 100) Thanks for any help in advance. I keep running into problems with dumb users not even realizing they have an outbox and are filling it up. So they keep getting the ISE message without realizing what is causing it. EDIT: Just to add on I picked up another problem, there seems to be a problem with special characters in users signature files. It throws an ISE when they include a sig that contains any sort of special character. -Nick [ February 05, 2001: Message edited by: NickCat ]

I've noticed that PM 3.8 breaks when people use apostrophies in the subject.
IE: Subject: User's Access
Will render this PM:
Subject: User Date: s Access Text: APO
A crust of bread is better than nothing. Nothing is better than love. Therefore, by the transitive property, a crust of bread is better than love.

Sorry I missed your response Nick, if you are still having problems, post back here.
Flare, is this the most recent files from the database? I know we had problems in the past like that, but it should be handling them well now... you probably get a |QUS| instead of a ? in the subject too....
